For he knew it was out of self- interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message:“ Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.” (niv)

As Paul talked about righteousness, self- control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said,“ That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.”At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him. (niv)

When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said,“ We want to hear you again on this subject.” (niv)

“ Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder,“ Crucify him!” (niv)

Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him,“ May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.” (niv)

The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate,“ Do not write‘ The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.Pilate answered,“ What I have written, I have written.” (niv)

and said to them,“ You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.” (niv)
