The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.Then Paul said to him,“ God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”Those who stood by said,“ Do you malign God’s high priest?”Paul said,“ I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written,‘ You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”

They kept saying,“ Hail, King of the Jews!” and they kept slapping him.

They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me.On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet, They cast up against me their ways of destruction.

Then they spat in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,saying,“ Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who hit you?”

The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him.Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him,“ Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?”

Now you shall gather yourself in troops, daughter of troops. He has laid siege against us. They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.

Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in Yahweh’s house.

The Lord Yahweh has opened my ear. I was not rebellious. I have not turned back.I gave my back to those who beat me, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair. I didn’t hide my face from shame and spitting.For the Lord Yahweh will help me. Therefore I have not been confounded. Therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I won’t be disappointed.
