but Jesus said to them,“ I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

Still, many in the crowd believed in him. They said,“ When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man?”

Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.

He came to Jesus at night and said,“ Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said,“ Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”

how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:“ Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”

When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:“ Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”“ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus,“ Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”“ I tell you,” he replied,“ if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.

I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.“ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.“ Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

“ What things?” he asked.“ About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.“ He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.

treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.“ What are we accomplishing?” they asked.“ Here is this man performing many signs.If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up,“ You know nothing at all!You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”

Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.“ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

“ Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.

But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.

He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying,“ We have never seen anything like this!”

So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,
