He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

若有人金環美服、入爾會堂、亦有貧者、敝衣而入、

義者知為貧者伸冤、惡人置若罔聞、

乃予工作者修葺主殿、以銀付於理事者以予工作之人、因其理事誠實、故不與之核算、

傭者逃、以其為傭而不顧羊、

惟欲我二人念貧者、我亦殷勤為此矣、○

時、我選擇祭司長十二人、即示利比雅、哈沙比雅、及其兄弟十人、以王與議士及諸牧伯、並居彼之以色列眾、所輸之金銀與諸器皿、獻於我天主殿者、權衡以付之、我權衡付於其手者、銀六百五十他連得、銀器重一百他連得、金一百他連得、金盂二十、重一千達利克、美銅之器二、其色光華、貴如黃金、我告之曰、爾乃奉事主之聖潔人、此器皿亦聖潔、此金銀為人所樂輸、獻於主爾列祖之天主、故守之益加謹慎、直至在耶路撒冷、在祭司、利未人諸長、及以色列諸族長前權衡、乃入主殿之庫房、祭司、利未人、收金銀與器皿、皆權衡輕重、以運至耶路撒冷、入我天主之殿、○正月十二日、我儕離亞哈瓦河、欲往耶路撒冷、蒙我天主之祐、援我於敵人、及潛伏於途者之手、遂至耶路撒冷、於彼休息休息原文作居三日、第四日、在我天主之殿中、權衡金銀與器皿、交於祭司烏利雅子米利末、與非尼哈子以利亞撒、及利未人耶書亞子約撒拔、賓內子挪亞底、一切皆計其數、權其輕重而交之、當時錄輕重於册、

彼就爾來、若民之會集、坐於爾前、如為我民、聽爾言而不行、口言親愛、心向利欲、

盜竊者、沈湎者、詬詈者、勒索者、皆不得天主國、

凡類於惡者、悉戒之、

愚人心中以為無天主、凡其所行、邪惡可憎、無一人行善、

不但此也、亦為諸教會所選、與我同行、送我所集之捐貲、歸榮於主、亦表爾樂捐之心、免人因我所集多金謗我、我儕務善、不但在主前、在人前亦若是、

凡先我來者、賊也、盜也、羊亦不聽之、我即門也、凡由我入者、必得救、且出入得芻、賊至特為竊、為殺、為滅、我至使羊得生、且所得之生愈盛、
