But some said,“ This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t he have kept Lazarus from dying?”

But some of them said,“ Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”

Some of them said,“ Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”

Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes.He told him,“ Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam”( Siloam means“ sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!

“ Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!

The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed.“ He saved others,” they said,“ let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed,“ So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself— and us, too, while you’re at it!”

Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed him.

Martha said to Jesus,“ Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.

When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said,“ Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

They even spoke against God himself, saying,“ God can’t give us food in the wilderness.Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out, but he can’t give his people bread and meat.”
