He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely,“ I am not the Messiah.”

He did not try to hide the truth. He spoke to them openly. He said,“ I am not the Messiah.”

He came right out and said,“ I am not the Messiah.”

As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ,John answered them all,“ I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

You yourselves testify that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent before him.’He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.He must increase, but I must decrease.He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
