遍地蕭條、恍若沙漠、人蹤罕至、焉得哲人、蒙予啟示、而言其故。

誰為智者、能明此事、誰蒙主諭、能宣示國緣何而滅亡、地緣何而焚燬、成如沙漠、無人來往、

Who is wise enough to understand this? Who has been instructed by the Lord and can explain it? Why has the land been ruined and laid waste like a desert that no one can cross?

Who is the man so wise that he can understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?

Who is wise enough to understand all this? Who has been instructed by the Lord and can explain it to others? Why has the land been so ruined that no one dares to travel through it?

I said,“ Who is wise enough to understand why this has happened? Who has a word from the LORD that can explain it? Why does the land lie in ruins? Why is it as scorched as a desert through which no one travels?”

讓那些智者明白這一切，讓那些明哲瞭解這一切。因為耶和華的道是正道，義人要行走在上面，罪人卻在上面跌倒。

有智慧的人都當留心這些事，思想耶和華的慈愛。

叫沃土變成荒涼的鹽鹼地，因為那裡的居民邪惡。

這殿雖然宏偉，但將來經過的人必驚訝，譏笑說，『耶和華為什麼這樣對待這地方和這殿呢？』人們會回答，『因為他們背棄曾領他們祖先離開埃及的耶和華——他們的上帝，去追隨、祭拜、供奉別的神明，所以耶和華把這一切災禍降在他們身上。』」

「當你把這些話告訴他們的時候，他們會質問你，『耶和華為什麼給我們降這大災難？我們有什麼罪？我們哪裡得罪了我們的上帝耶和華？』你要對他們說，『耶和華說，你們的祖先背棄我，去跟隨、供奉、祭拜別的神明；他們背棄我，不遵守我的律法。可是，你們的行為比他們更邪惡，一意孤行，不聽從我。所以，我要把你們從這裡驅逐到你們和你們祖先都不認識的地方，你們在那裡要日夜供奉別的神明，因為我不再恩待你們。』」

你的首領圖謀惡事，好像咆哮著撕碎獵物的獅子，他們草菅人命，搶奪財寶，使多人變成寡婦。你的祭司強解我的律法，褻瀆我的聖物。他們聖俗不分，也不教導人分辨潔淨的和污穢的。他們藐視我的安息日，褻瀆我。你的首領好像撕碎獵物的豺狼，殺人流血，謀取不義之財。你的先知對他們說虛假的異象和占卜，像用白灰刷牆一樣掩蓋他們的罪惡，說，耶和華這樣說，其實耶和華沒有說。你的居民強取豪奪，欺壓貧困的，虐待寄居的，無法無天。我想在他們中間尋找一位重修城牆的人，站在我面前為這地方堵住缺口，免得我毀滅這裡。可是，我一個也找不到。因此，我要向他們傾倒我的烈怒，用怒火滅盡他們，照他們的所作所為報應他們。這是主耶和華說的。』」

耶利米啊，如果有人問，『為什麼我們的上帝耶和華這樣待我們？』你可以對他們說，『你們怎樣背棄耶和華，在自己的土地上供奉外族的神明，也要怎樣在異地他鄉服侍外族人。』要在猶大向雅各家高聲宣佈，

「各國的人經過這城時都會彼此議論說，『為什麼耶和華這樣對待這座大城？』有人會回答，『因為城裡的人背棄了他們的上帝耶和華的約，供奉、祭拜其他神明。』」

「你們的子孫後代和從遠方來的外族人，必看見耶和華降在這地方的災禍和疾病。遍地將是硫磺和鹽，無法耕種，寸草不生，如同耶和華盛怒之下毀滅的所多瑪、蛾摩拉、押瑪和洗扁。萬國必問，『耶和華為什麼要這樣對待這地方？祂為什麼大發烈怒？』必有人回答說，『因為這地方的人背棄了他們祖先的上帝耶和華領他們出埃及時與他們所立的約，去供奉、祭拜他們所不認識、並非耶和華所分派的神明。因此，耶和華向這片土地發怒，把這書上的一切咒詛都降在這裡。耶和華盛怒之下把他們從這地方連根拔起，扔到別的地方，正如今日的情形。』

那位宣讀這預言的人和那些聽見並遵守其中內容的人有福了，因為日期近了。

如果他們有智慧，就能明白這一切、知道自己的結局。

你們看見他們的所作所為，就知道我不是無緣無故地懲罰耶路撒冷。』這是主耶和華說的。」
