我喜爱慈爱，不喜爱祭物；喜爱人认识上帝，胜于燔祭。

经上说：‘我喜爱怜悯，不喜爱祭祀。’这句话的意思，你们去揣摩。我不是来召义人，而是召罪人。”

祭物和礼物，你不喜爱，你已经开通我的耳朵；燔祭和赎罪祭非你所要。

你本不喜爱祭物，若喜爱，我就献上；燔祭你也不喜悦。上帝所要的祭就是忧伤的灵；上帝啊，忧伤痛悔的心，你必不轻看。

我并不因你的祭物责备你；你的燔祭常在我面前。我不从你家中取公牛，也不从你圈内取公山羊；因为，林中的百兽是我的，千山的牲畜也是我的。山中的飞鸟，我都知道，田野的走兽也都属我。“我若是饥饿，不用告诉你，因为世界和其中所充满的都是我的。我岂吃公牛的肉呢？我岂喝公山羊的血呢？你们要以感谢为祭献给上帝，又要向至高者还你的愿，并要在患难之日求告我，我必搭救你，你也要荣耀我。”但上帝对恶人说：“你怎敢传讲我的律例，口中提到我的约呢？其实你恨恶管教，将我的言语抛在脑后。

并且尽心、尽智、尽力爱他，又爱邻如己，要比一切燔祭和祭祀好得多。”
