For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices,

我喜愛憐恤，不喜愛祭祀；我喜愛人認識神的知識，勝過人獻的燔祭。

撒母耳說：“耶和華喜悅燔祭和平安祭，豈像喜悅人聽從耶和華的話呢？聽從勝過獻祭，聽命勝過公羊的脂油。

‘我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀’，你們去想一想這話的意思吧。我來不是要召義人，而是要召罪人。”

祭品和禮物不是你喜悅的。你開通了我的耳朵；燔祭和贖罪祭，不是你要求的。

因為你不喜愛祭物；我就是獻上燔祭，你也不喜悅。神所要的祭，就是破碎的靈；神啊！破碎痛悔的心，你必不輕看。

我不是因你的祭物責備你，你的燔祭常在我面前。我不從你家裡取公牛，也不從你羊圈中取公山羊。因為樹林中的百獸是我的，千山上的牲畜也是我的。山中的雀鳥我都認識，田野的走獸也都屬我。如果我餓了，我也不用對你說；因為世界和其中所充滿的，都是我的。難道我要吃公牛的肉嗎？要喝公山羊的血嗎？你要以感謝為祭獻給神，又要向至高者還你的願。在患難的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”但神對惡人說：“你怎麼敢述說我的律例，你的口怎麼敢提到我的約呢？至於你，你憎恨管教，並且把我的話丟在背後。

我們要用全心、全意、全力去愛他，並且要愛人如己，這就比一切燔祭和各樣祭物好得多了。”
