我民歟、當衣麻輾轉於塵埃、舉哀痛哭、若喪獨子、蓋殘殺毀滅者、忽至而攻我儕、

Put on sackcloth, my people, and roll in ashes; mourn with bitter wailing as for an only son, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.

My people, put on the clothes of sadness. Roll among the ashes. Mourn with bitter weeping just as you would mourn for an only son. The one who is going to destroy us will come suddenly.

O daughter of my people, put on sackcloth, and roll in ashes; make mourning as for an only son, most bitter lamentation, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.

Oh, my people, dress yourselves in burlap and sit among the ashes. Mourn and weep bitterly, as for the loss of an only son. For suddenly the destroying armies will be upon you!

My dear people, dress yourselves in sackcloth and roll in the dust. Mourn as you would for an only son, a bitter lament, for suddenly the destroyer will come on us.

O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.

My dear people, dress yourselves in sackcloth and roll in the dust. Mourn as you would for an only son, a bitter lament, for suddenly the destroyer will come on us.

O daughter of my people, gird[ thee] with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning,[ as for] an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

So I said,“ Oh, my dear people, put on sackcloth and roll in ashes. Mourn with painful sobs as though you had lost your only child. For any moment now that destructive army will come against us.”

Daughter of my people, clothe yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes! Mourn, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation, for the destroyer will suddenly come on us.

“ And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. (niv)

So put on sackcloth, lament and wail, for the fierce anger of the Lord has not turned away from us. (niv)

They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you; they will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes.They will shave their heads because of you and will put on sackcloth. They will weep over you with anguish of soul and with bitter mourning. (niv)

With their own hands compassionate women have cooked their own children, who became their food when my people were destroyed. (niv)

The punishment of my people is greater than that of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment without a hand turned to help her. (niv)

Over all the barren heights in the desert destroyers will swarm, for the sword of the Lord will devour from one end of the land to the other; no one will be safe. (niv)

If you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly, overflowing with tears, because the Lord’s flock will be taken captive. (niv)

My eyes fail from weeping, I am in torment within; my heart is poured out on the ground because my people are destroyed, because children and infants faint in the streets of the city. (niv)

“ Speak this word to them:“‘ Let my eyes overflow with tears night and day without ceasing; for the Virgin Daughter, my people, has suffered a grievous wound, a crushing blow. (niv)

Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me.Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain of my people. (niv)

At that time those slain by the Lord will be everywhere— from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground.Weep and wail, you shepherds; roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. For your time to be slaughtered has come; you will fall like the best of the rams. (niv)

Disaster follows disaster; the whole land lies in ruins. In an instant my tents are destroyed, my shelter in a moment. (niv)

The Lord, the Lord Almighty, called you on that day to weep and to wail, to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth. (niv)

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.‘ Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace. (niv)

this sin will become for you like a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly, in an instant. (niv)

Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young, but my people have become heartless like ostriches in the desert. (niv)

I will turn your religious festivals into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day. (niv)

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. (niv)

“ This is why I weep and my eyes overflow with tears. No one is near to comfort me, no one to restore my spirit. My children are destitute because the enemy has prevailed.” (niv)

Streams of tears flow from my eyes because my people are destroyed. (niv)

Because of this I will weep and wail; I will go about barefoot and naked. I will howl like a jackal and moan like an owl.For Samaria’s plague is incurable; it has spread to Judah. It has reached the very gate of my people, even to Jerusalem itself.Tell it not in Gath; weep not at all. In Beth Ophrah roll in the dust. (niv)

I will make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. At midday I will bring a destroyer against the mothers of their young men; suddenly I will bring down on them anguish and terror. (niv)

Therefore I said,“ Turn away from me; let me weep bitterly. Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people.” (niv)

Bitterly she weeps at night, tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have betrayed her; they have become her enemies. (niv)

At that time this people and Jerusalem will be told,“ A scorching wind from the barren heights in the desert blows toward my people, but not to winnow or cleanse; (niv)

Listen to the cry of my people from a land far away:“ Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King no longer there?”“ Why have they aroused my anger with their images, with their worthless foreign idols?” (niv)

Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your fine clothes and wrap yourselves in rags. (niv)

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Consider now! Call for the wailing women to come; send for the most skillful of them.Let them come quickly and wail over us till our eyes overflow with tears and water streams from our eyelids.The sound of wailing is heard from Zion:‘ How ruined we are! How great is our shame! We must leave our land because our houses are in ruins.’”Now, you women, hear the word of the Lord; open your ears to the words of his mouth. Teach your daughters how to wail; teach one another a lament.Death has climbed in through our windows and has entered our fortresses; it has removed the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares.Say,“ This is what the Lord declares:“‘ Dead bodies will lie like dung on the open field, like cut grain behind the reaper, with no one to gather them.’” (niv)

As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out— the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. (niv)

I will weep and wail for the mountains and take up a lament concerning the wilderness grasslands. They are desolate and untraveled, and the lowing of cattle is not heard. The birds have all fled and the animals are gone. (niv)

The fugitives who escape will flee to the mountains. Like doves of the valleys, they will all moan, each for their own sins.Every hand will go limp; every leg will be wet with urine.They will put on sackcloth and be clothed with terror. Every face will be covered with shame, and every head will be shaved. (niv)

Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. (niv)
