O God, foreigners have invaded your chosen land; they have polluted your holy temple and turned Jerusalem into a heap of ruins.

Your chosen cities have become a desert; Zion has become a desert, Jerusalem is a desolate ruin.Our holy temple, our pride and joy, the place where our ancestors praised you, has been burned with fire; all our prized possessions have been destroyed.

“ They do not know how to do what is right.”( The LORD is speaking.)“ They store up the spoils of destructive violence in their fortresses.Therefore,” says the sovereign LORD,“ an enemy will encircle the land. He will take away your power; your fortresses will be looted.”

So I will set Judah on fire, and it will consume Jerusalem’s fortresses.”

Empty it piece by piece. No lot has fallen on it.For her blood was in it; she poured it on an exposed rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it up with dust.To arouse anger, to take vengeance, I have placed her blood on an exposed rock so that it cannot be covered up.“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed! For I, the LORD, affirm that I will soon give the order and bring them back to this city. They will fight against it and capture it and burn it down. I will also make the towns of Judah desolate so that there will be no one living in them.”’”

“ All your wives and your children will be turned over to the Babylonians. You yourself will not escape from them but will be captured by the king of Babylon. This city will be burned down.”

Then the Babylonian forces will return. They will attack the city and will capture it and burn it down.Moreover, I, the LORD, warn you not to deceive yourselves into thinking that the Babylonian forces will go away and leave you alone. For they will not go away.For even if you were to defeat all the Babylonian forces fighting against you so badly that only wounded men were left lying in their tents, they would get up and burn this city down.”’”

Open your gates, Lebanon, so that the fire may consume your cedars.

So I will destroy this temple which I have claimed as my own, this temple that you are trusting to protect you. I will destroy this place that I gave to you and your ancestors, just like I destroyed Shiloh.

Say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: Realize I am about to desecrate my sanctuary– the source of your confident pride, the object in which your eyes delight, and your life’s passion. Your very own sons and daughters whom you have left behind will die by the sword.

They brought forward false witnesses who said,“ This man does not stop saying things against this holy place and the law.For we have heard him saying that Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”
