At Riblah the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah. He forced him to watch it with his own eyes. Nebuchadnezzar also killed all the officials of Judah.

Zedekiah’s sons were executed while Zedekiah was forced to watch. The king of Babylon then had Zedekiah’s eyes put out, bound him in bronze chains, and carried him off to Babylon.

Then she went and sat down by herself across from him at quite a distance, about a bowshot away; for she thought,“ I refuse to watch the child die.” So she sat across from him and wept uncontrollably.

Therefore, this is what the sovereign LORD says:‘ The corpses you have dumped in the midst of the city are the meat, and this city is the cooking pot, but I will take you out of it.You fear the sword, so the sword I will bring against you,’ declares the sovereign LORD.‘ But I will take you out of the city. And I will hand you over to foreigners. I will execute judgments on you.You will die by the sword; I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.This city will not be a cooking pot for you, and you will not be meat within it; I will judge you at the border of Israel.

The captain of the royal guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah, the priest who was second in rank, and the three doorkeepers.From the city he took a eunuch who was in charge of the soldiers, five of the king’s advisers who were discovered in the city, an official army secretary who drafted citizens for military service, and sixty citizens from the people of the land who were discovered in the city.Nebuzaradan, captain of the royal guard, took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.The king of Babylon ordered them to be executed at Riblah in the territory of Hamath. So Judah was deported from its land.

For how can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? I couldn’t bear to see my father’s pain.”
