Therefore the LORD says,“ I will stand up for your cause. I will pay the Babylonians back for what they have done to you. I will dry up their sea. I will make their springs run dry.

Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ See, I will defend your cause and avenge you; I will dry up her sea and make her springs dry.

So the Lord says,“ I will stand up for you. I will pay the Babylonians back for what they did to you. I will dry up their water supply. I will make their springs run dry.

Therefore thus says the Lord:“ Behold, I will plead your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountain dry,

This is what the Lord says to Jerusalem:“ I will be your lawyer to plead your case, and I will avenge you. I will dry up her river, as well as her springs,

Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am about to champion your cause and take vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her fountain run dry.

Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am going to plead your case And take vengeance for you; And I will dry up her sea And make her fountain dry.

Therefore thus says the Lord:“ Behold, I will plead your case and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her springs dry.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

Therefore, this is what the Lord says: I am about to plead your case and take vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her fountain run dry.

Therefore Yahweh says:“ Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

A drought will come upon her land; her rivers and canals will be dried up. All of this will happen because her land is filled with idols. Her people act like madmen because of those idols they fear.

Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

I know that the LORD defends the cause of the oppressed and vindicates the poor.

who says to the deep sea,‘ Be dry! I will dry up your sea currents,’

Cry out, O nations, with his people, for he will avenge his servants’ blood; he will take vengeance against his enemies, and make atonement for his land and people.

I will get revenge and pay them back at the time their foot slips; for the day of their disaster is near, and the impending judgment is rushing upon them!”

For we know the one who said,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” and again,“ The Lord will judge his people.”It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Because you robbed many countries, all who are left among the nations will rob you. You have shed human blood and committed violent acts against lands, cities, and those who live in them.The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. He does this so he can build his nest way up high and escape the clutches of disaster.Your schemes will bring shame to your house. Because you destroyed many nations, you will self-destruct.For the stones in the walls will cry out, and the wooden rafters will answer back.The one who builds a city by bloodshed is as good as dead– he who starts a town by unjust deeds.Be sure of this! The LORD who commands armies has decreed: The nations’ efforts will go up in smoke; their exhausting work will be for nothing.For recognition of the LORD’s sovereign majesty will fill the earth just as the waters fill up the sea.“ You who force your neighbor to drink wine are as good as dead– you who make others intoxicated by forcing them to drink from the bowl of your furious anger, so you can look at their genitals.But you will become drunk with shame, not majesty. Now it is your turn to drink and expose your uncircumcised foreskin! The cup of wine in the LORD’s right hand is coming to you, and disgrace will replace your majestic glory!For you will pay in full for your violent acts against Lebanon; terrifying judgment will come upon you because of the way you destroyed the wild animals living there. You have shed human blood and committed violent acts against lands, cities, and those who live in them.

The LORD who rules over all says,“ The people of Israel are oppressed. So too are the people of Judah. All those who took them captive are holding them prisoners. They refuse to set them free.But the one who will rescue them is strong. He is known as the LORD who rules over all. He will strongly champion their cause. As a result he will bring peace and rest to the earth, but trouble and turmoil to the people who inhabit Babylonia.

for their Protector is strong; he will plead their case against you.

Get out of Babylonia quickly, you foreign people. Flee to save your lives. Do not let yourselves be killed because of her sins. For it is time for the LORD to wreak his revenge. He will pay Babylonia back for what she has done.

for the LORD will plead their case and will rob those who are robbing them.

He turned streams into a desert, springs of water into arid land,

My enemies, do not gloat over me! Though I have fallen, I will get up. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.I must endure the LORD’s anger, for I have sinned against him. But then he will defend my cause, and accomplish justice on my behalf. He will lead me out into the light; I will experience firsthand his deliverance.When my enemies see this, they will be covered with shame. They say to me,“ Where is the LORD your God?” I will gloat over them. Then they will be trampled down like mud in the streets.

Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates and dried up its water to prepare the way for the kings from the east.

After these things I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a vast throng in heaven, saying,“ Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,because his judgments are true and just. For he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and has avenged the blood of his servants poured out by her own hands!”Then a second time the crowd shouted,“ Hallelujah!” The smoke rises from her forever and ever.

I was angry at my people; I defiled my special possession and handed them over to you. You showed them no mercy; you even placed a very heavy burden on old people.You said,‘ I will rule forever as permanent queen!’ You did not think about these things; you did not consider how it would turn out.So now, listen to this, O one who lives so lavishly, who lives securely, who says to herself,‘ I am unique! No one can compare to me! I will never have to live as a widow; I will never lose my children.’Both of these will come upon you suddenly, in one day! You will lose your children and be widowed. You will be overwhelmed by these tragedies, despite your many incantations and your numerous amulets.

Indeed,” says the LORD,“ captives will be taken from a warrior; spoils will be rescued from a conqueror. I will oppose your adversary and I will rescue your children.I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will get drunk on their own blood, as if it were wine. Then all humankind will recognize that I am the LORD, your deliverer, your protector, the powerful ruler of Jacob.”

O LORD, the God who avenges! O God who avenges, reveal your splendor!Rise up, O judge of the earth! Pay back the proud!O LORD, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked celebrate?

This is what the LORD says, your protector, the Holy One of Israel:“ For your sake I send to Babylon and make them all fugitives, turning the Babylonians’ joyful shouts into mourning songs.
