The people of Jerusalem say,“ Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, has destroyed us. He has thrown us into a panic. He has emptied us out like a jar. Like a snake he has swallowed us up. He has filled his stomach with our rich food. Then he has spit us out of his mouth.”

“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his stomach with my delicacies; he has rinsed me out.

“ King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has eaten and crushed us and drained us of strength. He has swallowed us like a great monster and filled his belly with our riches. He has thrown us out of our own country.

看吧，永恆主必將大地弄空，使它變為荒蕪；他必扭歪地的面貌，使它的居民四散。那時人民怎樣，祭司也必怎樣；僕人怎樣，主人也必怎樣；婢女怎樣，主母也必怎樣；買物的怎樣，賣物的也必怎樣；借給人的怎樣，向人借的也必怎樣；放債的怎樣，借債的也必怎樣。大地必被弄到空空，世界必被掠劫到掠劫淨盡：因為這話是永恆主說的。

你的仇敵都抿着嘴來調弄你；他們嗤笑着又切齒着，說：『我們吞滅了她了！啊！這正是我們所盼望的日子呀！我們得到了！我們看到了！』

『經學士和法利賽人、假冒為善的人哪，你們有禍啊！因為你們當人面前把天國關起來；你們自己不進入，又不容那正進入的人進入。

所以你要傳神言說：主永恆主這麼說：因為敵人真地使你們淒涼，四圍蹂躪你們，要使你們歸於其餘的外國人為業，被鼓舌傷人者的嘴和暴民的讒誹所取笑；

你們這些踐踏窮人，要使國中困苦人滅絕的啊，聽以下這話哦！

因為永恆主必恢復雅各所誇耀的、正如以色列所誇耀的一樣；因為那些劫掠一空者已把雅各和以色列劫掠一空，將他們的葡萄枝毁壞了。）

我的悖逆綁成個軛；罪惡在他手中纏在一團，上到我的脖子，使我力量衰弱；主將我交於罪人手中，我站立不住。『永恆主把我中間的壯士都踢在一邊；他招聚了一大團人來攻擊我，要粉碎我的壯丁；永恆主將猶大童女踹下，像在酒醡中一樣。

『搶銀子！搶金子！』儲備的無窮盡，各樣寶器很豐富啊！空空如也，空空、荒蕪！人人膽戰心驚，雙膝軟顫，腰都扭轉難過，臉都失色變青！

為着抵償以色列被刺殺的人，巴比倫也必須仆倒；正如全地被刺殺的人也必須由巴比倫之仆倒以作抵償。

我們來像陰間、把他們活活吞下去，健全無病地吞下，使他們如下陰坑的人；

怎麼啦！先前滿有人民的城，現在竟自獨坐啊！先前在列國中為大的，現在竟如寡婦啊！先前在諸省中為王后的，現在竟成了作苦工的啊！

『摩押自從幼年以來就安安逸逸，靜澱在糟滓之上，沒有從這器皿倒到那器皿；他未曾流亡去；因為他的原味尚存，其香氣未變。『故此你看，日子必到，永恆主發神諭說，我必打發倒酒的往他那裏去，將他倒出；把他的器皿倒到空空，又把他的罈子摔碎。

凡遇見他們的、就把他們吞滅；他們的敵人說：「我們沒有罪責，因為是他們自己犯罪得罪了永恆主，那真正的居所，他們列祖所仰望的。」

叫梟箭豬卻要佔據它；貓頭鷹烏鴉必住於其間；永恆主必將「無定形」之準繩「混沌」之線鉈拉在它的顯貴人上頭。

猶大王西底家九年十月、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒率領了他的全軍來到耶路撒冷，圍攻它。西底家十一年四月九日、城被攻破。耶路撒冷被攻取的時候，巴比倫王的眾貴族：尼甲沙利薛、三甲尼波撒西金、要人首領、尼甲沙利薛、貴族首領、和巴比倫王其餘的一切貴族、都來，坐在中門。猶大王西底家和所有的軍兵看見他們，便逃跑，就在夜間從王家園子的路、兩城牆中間的門、出城，按亞拉巴的路向出走。迦勒底人的軍隊追趕他們，在耶利哥原野追上了西底家，將他拿住，把他帶上去到哈馬地的利比拉、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒那裏；尼布甲尼撒就宣佈判語定他的罪。巴比倫王在利比拉當西底家眼前將他的眾兒子都宰殺掉；巴比倫王也宰殺了猶大所有顯貴的人，並將西底家的一對眼睛都弄瞎了，然後用銅鍊鎖着他，要將他帶到巴比倫去。王的宮殿和人民的房屋、迦勒底人都放火焚燒；耶路撒冷的城牆他們都拆毁了。
