我从起初就宣告末后的事，从古时就宣告尚未成就的事。我说：‘我的筹算必成立，我所喜悦的一切，我都必成就。’我要把猛禽从东方召来，把成就我筹算的人从遥远之地召来。我已经说出，就必定使之实现；我计划了，就必定实行。

“巴比伦处女啊，下来，坐在尘土中！迦勒底女子啊，坐在地上，没有宝座！因为人必不再称你为柔弱娇嫩的了。你要拿石磨去磨面粉；你要揭开面纱，脱去长裙，露出大腿，渡过河去。你的下体必被露出，你的羞耻必被看见。我要施行报复，不放过任何人。我们的救赎主，他的名是万军之耶和华，他是以色列的圣者。“迦勒底女子啊，你要默然静坐，进入黑暗！因为人必不再称你为列国的王后了。我对我的子民发怒，使我的继业被亵渎，又把他们交在你的手中；你却没有对他们施怜悯，即使对老年人，你也把你的轭重重地压在他们身上。你曾说：‘我必永远作王后！’你不把这些事放在心上，也不顾念事情的结局。“因此，你这骄奢的人哪——你安然居住，心里说：‘只有我，除我以外再没有别的；我必不会寡居，也不会经历丧子之事。’——现在你要听这话：丧子和寡居这两件事必在一日之内突然临到你！你的法术再多，符咒再有威力，这两件事也必全然临到你！你依靠自己的恶行，说：‘没有人看见我。’你的智慧和知识把你引入歧途，你心里就说：‘只有我，除我以外再没有别的！’但灾祸必临到你，你却不知如何消解；灾难必落在你身上，你却无法赎清；毁灭必突然临到你，你却意料不到。坚持施行你的符咒和众多法术吧！那些都是你从年轻时辛劳所得的，或许你能得益处，或许还能让人恐惧呢！你因谋划过多而筋疲力尽；现在就让那些划分天象、观看星辰、在新月时说预言的都站出来吧，拯救你脱离那些将要临到你的事！看哪！他们必像麦秸一样被火烧毁，他们不能解救自己脱离威猛的火焰；这不是可以用来取暖的炭火，也不是可以坐在其面前的炉火。那些与你一起辛劳的，就是从你年轻时就与你一起做买卖的，对你也是如此；他们各奔己路，四处飘流，没有人拯救你。”

为此，在万军之耶和华烈怒的日子里，因着我的盛怒，我要使诸天颤抖；大地必从其原处震开。人必像被追赶的羚羊，又像无人招聚的群羊，各自归回本族，各自逃到本土。
