On the seventeenth day of the seventh month, the ark came to rest on one of the mountains of Ararat.

“ Announce the news among the nations! Proclaim it! Signal for people to pay attention! Declare the news! Do not hide it! Say:‘ Babylon will be captured. Bel will be put to shame. Marduk will be dismayed. Babylon’s idols will be put to shame. Her disgusting images will be dismayed.

For many nations and great kings will make slaves of the king of Babylon and his nation too. I will repay them for all they have done!’”

Give the signal to attack Babylon’s wall! Bring more guards! Post them all around the city! Put men in ambush! For the LORD will do what he has planned. He will do what he said he would do to the people of Babylon.

It is the LORD with his instruments of judgment, coming to destroy the whole earth.

“ Look! An army is about to come from the north. A mighty nation and many kings are stirring into action in faraway parts of the earth.Its soldiers are armed with bows and spears. They are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride forth on their horses. Lined up in formation like men going into battle, they are coming against you, fair Babylon!

Now the locusts looked like horses equipped for battle. On their heads were something like crowns similar to gold, and their faces looked like men’s faces.They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.They had breastplates like iron breastplates, and the sound of their wings was like the noise of many horse- drawn chariots charging into battle.They have tails and stingers like scorpions, and their ability to injure people for five months is in their tails.They have as king over them the angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.

The LORD who rules over all has solemnly sworn,‘ I will fill your land with enemy soldiers. They will swarm over it like locusts. They will raise up shouts of victory over it.’

All you who live in the world, who reside on the earth, you will see a signal flag raised on the mountains; you will hear a trumpet being blown.

The population of Egypt is like a vast, impenetrable forest. But I, the LORD, affirm that the enemy will cut them down. For those who chop them down will be more numerous than locusts. They will be too numerous to count.

One day, as he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword. They escaped to the land of Ararat; his son Esarhaddon replaced him as king.

If an alarm sounds in a city, do people not fear? If disaster overtakes a city, is the LORD not responsible?

When they invaded with their cattle and tents, they were as thick as locusts. Neither they nor their camels could be counted. They came to devour the land.

“ Run for safety, people of Benjamin! Get out of Jerusalem! Sound the trumpet in Tekoa! Light the signal fires at Beth Hakkerem! For disaster lurks out of the north; it will bring great destruction.

For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to wage war; the city will be taken, its houses plundered, and the women raped. Then half of the city will go into exile, but the remainder of the people will not be taken away.

It will be a day of dreadful darkness, a day of foreboding storm clouds, like blackness spread over the mountains. It is a huge and powerful army– there has never been anything like it ever before, and there will not be anything like it for many generations to come!Like fire they devour everything in their path; a flame blazes behind them. The land looks like the Garden of Eden before them, but behind them there is only a desolate wilderness– for nothing escapes them!

There the fire will consume you; the sword will cut you down; it will devour you like the young locust would. Multiply yourself like the young locust; multiply yourself like the flying locust!Increase your merchants more than the stars of heaven! They are like the young locust which sheds its skin and flies away.Your courtiers are like locusts, your officials are like a swarm of locusts! They encamp in the walls on a cold day, yet when the sun rises, they fly away; and no one knows where they are.
