They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted— twice dead.They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. (niv)

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. (niv)

“ What do you see, Amos?” he asked.“ A basket of ripe fruit,” I answered. Then the Lord said to me,“ The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer. (niv)

“ The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore—cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves.“ They will say,‘ The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. For you have shed human blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.“ Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!You have plotted the ruin of many peoples, shaming your own house and forfeiting your life.The stones of the wall will cry out, and the beams of the woodwork will echo it. They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out:“‘ Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’ (niv)

People stalked us at every step, so we could not walk in our streets. Our end was near, our days were numbered, for our end had come. (niv)

There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you.“‘ Then you will know that it is I the Lord who strikes you.“‘ See, the day! See, it comes! Doom has burst forth, the rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed!Violence has arisen, a rod to punish the wicked. None of the people will be left, none of that crowd— none of their wealth, nothing of value.The time has come! The day has arrived! Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller grieve, for my wrath is on the whole crowd. (niv)

And I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’“ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” (niv)

With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed— an accursed brood!They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness. (niv)

Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay are those who gain riches by unjust means. When their lives are half gone, their riches will desert them, and in the end they will prove to be fools. (niv)

Kill all her young bulls; let them go down to the slaughter! Woe to them! For their day has come, the time for them to be punished. (niv)
