For I will stir up and bring against Babylon an alliance of great nations from the land of the north. They will take up their positions against her, and from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.

For behold, I am stirring up and bringing against Babylon a gathering of great nations, from the north country. And they shall array themselves against her. From there she shall be taken. Their arrows are like a skilled warrior who does not return empty-handed.

For I am raising up an army of great nations from the north. They will join forces to attack Babylon, and she will be captured. The enemies’ arrows will go straight to the mark; they will not miss!

耶和華說：「看啊，我要使毀滅的暴風襲擊巴比倫和住在立加米的人。毀滅巴比倫人的日子一到，我要差遣外族人從四面八方攻擊、消滅他們，如同狂風捲走碎稭。不要讓他們的弓箭手有機會射箭，不要讓他們的戰士有機會穿鎧甲，不要放過他們的青年，要使他們全軍覆沒。他們將被刀劍刺透，倒斃在自己的土地上，橫屍街頭。

看啊，大軍要從北方而來，一個強國及其盟軍要從地極而來。巴比倫人啊，他們殘忍無道，手持弓箭和矛槍，騎著戰馬，列陣攻擊你們，聲勢如翻騰的大海。

把你們擄到陌生的地方。我的怒火要燒滅你們。」

波斯王塞魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗祂藉耶利米所說的話，就感動波斯王塞魯士，使他下詔通告全國：「波斯王塞魯士如此說，『天上的上帝耶和華已把天下萬國都賜給我，祂吩咐我在猶大的耶路撒冷為祂建造殿宇。

要在光禿的山頂上豎立旗幟，向戰士高呼，揮手示意他們進攻貴族居住的城。我已向我揀選的士兵發出命令，我已號召我的勇士去傾倒我的烈怒，他們因我的勝利而歡喜。聽啊，山上人聲鼎沸，像是大軍的聲音。那是列邦列國聚集呐喊的聲音。萬軍之耶和華正在召集軍隊，準備作戰。他們從地極，從天邊而來。那是耶和華及傾倒祂烈怒的兵器，要來毀滅大地。

「我使一人從北方興起，他來了，他在東方求告我的名。他必把掌權者像灰泥一樣踏在腳下，像窯匠踩泥一樣踐踏。

你們要從遠方前來攻打巴比倫，打開她的糧倉，使她淪為一堆廢墟，徹底毀滅她，不留一物。

看啊，我要驅使瑪代人來攻擊他們。瑪代人不在乎金子，也不看重銀子，他們必用弓箭射死青年，不憐憫嬰兒，也不顧惜孩童。

你們要去攻打米拉大翁和比割的居民，照我的命令徹底消滅他們。這是耶和華說的。

「要召集所有的弓箭手來攻打巴比倫，在她四圍紮營，不讓一人漏網。要照她的所作所為報應她；她怎樣對待別人，也要怎樣對待她，因為她藐視耶和華——以色列的聖者。

我看見一個令人膽戰心驚的異象：「詭詐的在行詭詐，毀滅的在行毀滅。以攔人啊，攻打吧！瑪代人啊，圍城吧！耶和華必終止巴比倫帶來的痛苦。」

「我耶和華膏立塞魯士為王，我牽著他的右手幫助他征服列國、降服列王；我使城門洞開，讓他通行無阻。我對他說，『我要走在你前面，為你鏟平高山，打破銅門，砍斷鐵閂。我要把隱藏的寶物和秘密收藏的財富賜給你，好叫你知道點名呼召你的是我——以色列的上帝耶和華。雖然你不認識我，但為了我的僕人雅各，我所揀選的以色列，我還是點名呼召你，賜給你一個尊貴的名號。
