“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

他以强而有力的声音喊着说：“倾覆了！大巴比伦倾覆了！她成了鬼魔的住处，各样污秽之灵的巢穴，各样污秽之鸟的窝，各样污秽可憎之兽的出没处。

七十年满了以后，我必惩罚巴比伦王和那国，并迦勒底人之地，因他们的罪孽使那地永远荒凉。这是耶和华说的。

“我必使巴比伦为豪猪占据，成为泥沼之地；我要用灭命的扫帚扫净它；这是万军之耶和华说的。”

说：‘耶和华啊，你曾论到这地方说：要剪除它，不再有人与牲畜居住此地，必永远荒凉。’你读完这书卷，就要把一块石头拴在其上，投入幼发拉底河中，说：‘巴比伦因耶和华所要降与它的灾祸，必如此沉下去，不再浮起来，百姓也必困乏。’”耶利米的话到此为止。

鹈鹕、豪猪要得它为业，猫头鹰、乌鸦要住在其间。耶和华必将空虚的准绳、混沌的石垂线，拉在以东之上。人必宣称那里没有王国，它的贵族和所有领袖都归于无有。以东的宫殿要长出荆棘，城堡要生长蒺藜和刺草；成为野狗的住处，鸵鸟的居所。野兽要和土狼相遇，山羊鬼魔要与同伴对唱，莉莉丝必在那里栖身，为自己寻找安歇之处。箭头蛇要在那里做窝，下蛋，孵蛋，并招聚幼蛇在其保护之下；鹞鹰也与伴侣聚集在那里。你们要查考并诵读耶和华的书；这些现象必然存在，没有一样动物缺少伴侣。因为是他，藉着我的口吩咐，他的灵将它们聚集。他为它们抽签，亲手用准绳为它们分地；直到它们永远得地为业，世世代代住在其间。

它的城镇变废墟，地变干旱，成为沙漠，成为无人居住、无人经过之地。

有一位大力的天使举起一块石头，好像大磨石，扔在海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样猛力地被扔下去，绝对见不到了。弹琴、歌唱、吹笛、吹号的声音，在你中间绝对听不见了；各行手艺的技工在你中间绝对见不到了；推磨的声音在你中间绝对听不见了；灯台的光在你中间绝对不再照耀了；新郎和新娘的声音在你中间绝对听不见了。你的商人原来是地上的显要；万国也被你的邪术迷惑了。先知、圣徒和地上一切被杀的人的血都在这城里找到了。”

人必不从你那里取石头为房角石，也不取石头来作根基，因为你必永远荒废。这是耶和华说的。

巴比伦必成为废墟，为野狗的住处，令人惊骇、嗤笑，并且无人居住。他们要像少壮狮子一同咆哮，像小狮子吼叫。

你们的母亲极其抱愧，生你们的必然蒙羞。看哪，她要列在诸国之末，成为旷野、旱地、沙漠；因耶和华的愤怒，巴比伦必无人居住，全然荒凉，凡经过的都要受惊骇，又因它所遭的灾殃嗤笑。
