“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Therefore wild beasts shall dwell with hyenas in Babylon, and ostriches shall dwell in her. She shall never again have people, nor be inhabited for all generations.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore, desert creatures will live with hyenas, and ostriches will also live in her. It will never again be inhabited or lived in through all generations.

Therefore desert creatures and jackals will live there. Ostriches will dwell in it too. But no people will ever live there again. No one will dwell there for all time to come.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

他以強而有力的聲音喊着說：「傾覆了！大巴比倫傾覆了！她成了鬼魔的住處，各樣污穢之靈的巢穴，各樣污穢之鳥的窩，各樣污穢可憎之獸的出沒處。

七十年滿了以後，我必懲罰巴比倫王和那國，並迦勒底人之地，因他們的罪孽使那地永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。

「我必使巴比倫為豪豬佔據，成為泥沼之地；我要用滅命的掃帚掃淨它；這是萬軍之耶和華說的。」

說：『耶和華啊，你曾論到這地方說：要剪除它，不再有人與牲畜居住此地，必永遠荒涼。』你讀完這書卷，就要把一塊石頭拴在其上，投入幼發拉底河中，說：『巴比倫因耶和華所要降與它的災禍，必如此沉下去，不再浮起來，百姓也必困乏。』」耶利米的話到此為止。

鵜鶘、豪豬要得它為業，貓頭鷹、烏鴉要住在其間。耶和華必將空虛的準繩、混沌的石垂線，拉在以東之上。人必宣稱那裏沒有王國，它的貴族和所有領袖都歸於無有。以東的宮殿要長出荊棘，城堡要生長蒺藜和刺草；成為野狗的住處，鴕鳥的居所。野獸要和土狼相遇，山羊鬼魔要與同伴對唱，莉莉絲必在那裏棲身，為自己尋找安歇之處。箭頭蛇要在那裏做窩，下蛋，孵蛋，並招聚幼蛇在其保護之下；鷂鷹也與伴侶聚集在那裏。你們要查考並誦讀耶和華的書；這些現象必然存在，沒有一樣動物缺少伴侶。因為是他，藉着我的口吩咐，他的靈將牠們聚集。他為牠們抽籤，親手用準繩為牠們分地；直到牠們永遠得地為業，世世代代住在其間。

它的城鎮變廢墟，地變乾旱，成為沙漠，成為無人居住、無人經過之地。

有一位大力的天使舉起一塊石頭，好像大磨石，扔在海裏，說：「巴比倫大城也必這樣猛力地被扔下去，絕對見不到了。彈琴、歌唱、吹笛、吹號的聲音，在你中間絕對聽不見了；各行手藝的技工在你中間絕對見不到了；推磨的聲音在你中間絕對聽不見了；燈臺的光在你中間絕對不再照耀了；新郎和新娘的聲音在你中間絕對聽不見了。你的商人原來是地上的顯要；萬國也被你的邪術迷惑了。先知、聖徒和地上一切被殺的人的血都在這城裏找到了。」

人必不從你那裏取石頭為房角石，也不取石頭來作根基，因為你必永遠荒廢。這是耶和華說的。

巴比倫必成為廢墟，為野狗的住處，令人驚駭、嗤笑，並且無人居住。他們要像少壯獅子一同咆哮，像小獅子吼叫。

你們的母親極其抱愧，生你們的必然蒙羞。看哪，她要列在諸國之末，成為曠野、旱地、沙漠；因耶和華的憤怒，巴比倫必無人居住，全然荒涼，凡經過的都要受驚駭，又因它所遭的災殃嗤笑。
