“ Announce this in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol; proclaim it also in Memphis and Tahpanhes:‘ Take your positions and get ready, for the sword devours those around you.’

“ Egyptians, here is what I want you to announce in your land. Announce it in the city of Migdol. Also announce it in Memphis and Tahpanhes. Say,‘ Take up your battle positions! Get ready! The sword eats up those around you.’

“ Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol; proclaim in Memphis and Tahpanhes; say,‘ Stand ready and be prepared, for the sword shall devour around you.’

“ Shout it out in Egypt! Publish it in the cities of Migdol, Memphis, and Tahpanhes! Mobilize for battle, for the sword will devour everyone around you.

Announce it in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol! Proclaim it in Memphis and in Tahpanhes! Say,“ Take positions! Prepare yourself, for the sword devours all around you.”

“ Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol; Proclaim in Noph and in Tahpanhes; Say,‘ stand fast and prepare yourselves, For the sword devours all around you.’

Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand forth, and prepare thee; for the sword hath devoured round about thee.

“ Declare in Egypt, publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say,‘ Stand up, and prepare; for the sword has devoured around you.’

But that day belongs to the Lord God who rules over all. It is the day when he will pay back his enemies. His sword will devour them until its appetite is satisfied! It will drink their blood until it is full! For the Lord GOD who rules over all will offer them up as a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.

The LORD spoke to Jeremiah concerning all the Judeans who were living in the land of Egypt, those in Migdol, Tahpanhes, Memphis, and in the region of southern Egypt.

But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” Know for certain that the LORD has spoken.

“ Fall into ranks with your shields ready! Prepare to march into battle!Harness the horses to the chariots! Mount your horses! Put on your helmets and take your positions! Sharpen you spears! Put on your armor!

At Tahpanhes the LORD spoke to Jeremiah.“ Take some large stones and bury them in the mortar of the clay pavement at the entrance of Pharaoh’s residence here in Tahpanhes. Do it while the people of Judah present there are watching.

“ I am against you!” declares the LORD who commands armies:“ I will burn your chariots with fire; the sword will devour your young lions; you will no longer prey upon the land; the voices of your messengers will no longer be heard.”

“ It did no good for me to punish your people. They did not respond to such correction. You slaughtered your prophets like a voracious lion.”

Proclaim this among the nations:“ Prepare for a holy war! Call out the warriors! Let all these fighting men approach and attack!Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears! Let the weak say,‘ I too am a warrior!’Lend your aid and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves to that place.” Bring down, O LORD, your warriors!Let the nations be roused and let them go up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit in judgment on all the surrounding nations.

“ Run for safety, people of Benjamin! Get out of Jerusalem! Sound the trumpet in Tekoa! Light the signal fires at Beth Hakkerem! For disaster lurks out of the north; it will bring great destruction.I will destroy Daughter Zion, who is as delicate and defenseless as a young maiden.Kings will come against it with their armies. They will encamp in siege all around it. Each of them will devastate the portion assigned to him.They will say,‘ Prepare to do battle against it! Come on! Let’s attack it at noon!’ But later they will say,‘ Oh, oh! Too bad! The day is almost over and the shadows of evening are getting long.So come on, let’s go ahead and attack it by night and destroy all its fortified buildings.’

Then Abner called out to Joab,“ Must the sword devour forever? Don’t you realize that this will turn bitter in the end? When will you tell the people to turn aside from pursuing their brothers?”

The LORD’s sword is dripping with blood, it is covered with fat; it drips with the blood of young rams and goats and is covered with the fat of rams’ kidneys. For the LORD is holding a sacrifice in Bozrah, a bloody slaughter in the land of Edom.

I will ignite a fire in Egypt; Syene will writhe in agony, Thebes will be broken down, and Memphis will face enemies every day.The young men of On and of Pi-beseth will die by the sword; and the cities will go into captivity.In Tahpanhes the day will be dark when I break the yoke of Egypt there. “ Tell the Israelites that they must turn and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you are to camp by the sea before Baal Zephon opposite it.

A destructive army will come marching over the hilltops in the desert. For the LORD will use them as his destructive weapon against everyone from one end of the land to the other. No one will be safe.

Assyria will fall by a sword, but not one human- made; a sword not made by humankind will destroy them. They will run away from this sword and their young men will be forced to do hard labor.
