“ Besides,” the women added,“ do you suppose that we were burning incense and pouring out liquid offerings to the Queen of Heaven, and making cakes marked with her image, without our husbands knowing it and helping us? Of course not!”

妇女说：“我们向天后烧香、浇奠祭，做天后像的饼供奉她，向她浇奠祭，是外乎我们的丈夫吗？”

妇女们说：“我们向天后烧香，献浇酒祭，做天后像的饼供奉它，向它献浇酒祭，难道我们的丈夫没有参与吗？”

妇女们说：“我们向天后烧香，献浇酒祭，做天后像的饼供奉它，向它献浇酒祭，难道我们的丈夫没有参与吗？”

那些烧香的妇女说：“你以为我们的丈夫不知道我们向天后烧香奠酒、照着她的形象做祭饼吗？”

那些妇女又说：“我们不错是向天后烧香和浇奠祭，难道我们的丈夫不知道我们照着天后的形象制饼供奉她，向她浇奠祭吗？”

婦女說：「我們向天后燒香、澆奠祭，做天后像的餅供奉她，向她澆奠祭，是外乎我們的丈夫嗎？」

婦女們說：「我們向天后燒香，獻澆酒祭，做天后像的餅供奉它，向它獻澆酒祭，難道我們的丈夫沒有參與嗎？」

婦女們說：「我們向天后燒香，獻澆酒祭，做天后像的餅供奉它，向它獻澆酒祭，難道我們的丈夫沒有參與嗎？」

那些燒香的婦女說：「你以為我們的丈夫不知道我們向天后燒香奠酒、照著她的形像做祭餅嗎？」

那些婦女又說：“我們不錯是向天后燒香和澆奠祭，難道我們的丈夫不知道我們照著天后的形象製餅供奉她，向她澆奠祭嗎？”

婦女們說：『我們向天后燻祭，澆奠祭，難道沒有我們丈夫的同意就作天后像的祭餅去供奉她，向她澆奠祭麼？』

我焚香灌奠於天后、作餅以象其形、加以灌奠、我夫豈不與乎、

諸婦女曰、昔我焚香、灌奠、為餅、以事天后、豈非我夫所許乎。

婦女曰、我焚香灌奠並作餅、以奉事天后、豈非我夫所許乎、

The women added,“ When we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands know that we were making cakes impressed with her image and pouring out drink offerings to her?”

The women added,“ We burned incense to the Queen of Heaven. We poured out drink offerings to her. And our husbands knew we were making cakes that looked like her. They knew we were pouring out drink offerings to her.”

And the women said,“ When we made offerings to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ approval that we made cakes for her bearing her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”

And the women said,“ When we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it apart from our husbands’ knowledge that we made sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”

“ And,” said the women,“ when we were burning sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands that we made for her sacrificial cakes in her image, and poured out drink offerings to her?”

The women also said,“ And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make cakes for her, to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her without our husbands’ permission?”

And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink- offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink- offerings unto her, without our husbands?

And the women said,“ When we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it apart from our husbands’ knowledge that we made sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”

And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?

The women added,“ We did indeed sacrifice and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven. But it was with the full knowledge and approval of our husbands that we made cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her.”

“ When we burned incense to the queen of the sky, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”

No wonder I am so angry! Watch how the children gather wood and the fathers build sacrificial fires. See how the women knead dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven. And they pour out liquid offerings to their other idol gods!

Then all the women present and all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense to idols— a great crowd of all the Judeans living in northern Egypt and southern Egypt— answered Jeremiah,

“ Who told you that you were naked?” the Lord God asked.“ Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?”The man replied,“ It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”

Evil people will surely be punished, but the children of the godly will go free.

Then he said to the woman,“ I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy, and in pain you will give birth. And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you.”And to the man he said,“ Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it.

But Jehoram followed the example of the kings of Israel and was as wicked as King Ahab, for he had married one of Ahab’s daughters. So Jehoram did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.

You must not intermarry with them. Do not let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters,for they will lead your children away from me to worship other gods. Then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and he will quickly destroy you.

The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

“ Now suppose a young woman makes a vow or binds herself with an impulsive pledge and later marries.If her husband learns of her vow or pledge and does not object on the day he hears of it, her vows and pledges will stand.

So Herodias bore a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But without Herod’s approval she was powerless,for Herod respected John; and knowing that he was a good and holy man, he protected him. Herod was greatly disturbed whenever he talked with John, but even so, he liked to listen to him.Herodias’s chance finally came on Herod’s birthday. He gave a party for his high government officials, army officers, and the leading citizens of Galilee.Then his daughter, also named Herodias, came in and performed a dance that greatly pleased Herod and his guests.“ Ask me for anything you like,” the king said to the girl,“ and I will give it to you.”He even vowed,“ I will give you whatever you ask, up to half my kingdom!”She went out and asked her mother,“ What should I ask for?” Her mother told her,“ Ask for the head of John the Baptist!”So the girl hurried back to the king and told him,“ I want the head of John the Baptist, right now, on a tray!”Then the king deeply regretted what he had said; but because of the vows he had made in front of his guests, he couldn’t refuse her.So he immediately sent an executioner to the prison to cut off John’s head and bring it to him. The soldier beheaded John in the prison,
