但有一個法利賽人，名叫迦瑪列，是民眾所尊敬的律法教師。他在公議會中站起來，吩咐人把使徒暫時帶出去，然後對大家說：“以色列人哪，你們應當小心處理這些人！從前有個丟大，自命不凡，附從他的人約有四百。他一被殺，跟從他的人盡都星散，一敗塗地。這人之後，在戶口登記的時候，又有一個加利利人猶大，拉攏人們來跟從他。後來他也喪命，跟從他的人也就煙消雲散了。至於目前的事，我勸你們不要管這些人，由他們吧！因為這計劃或這行動，如果是出於人意，終必失敗；如果是出於神，你們就不能破壞他們，恐怕你們是與神作對了。”他們接受了他的勸告，

流本又對他們說：“不可流他的血，可以把他丟在這曠野的枯井裡，不可下手害他。”流本的意思是要救他脫離他們的手，把他帶回去給他的父親。

就下到王宮，進入書記的房間裡；所有領袖都在那裡坐著，他們是書記以利沙瑪、示瑪雅的兒子第萊雅、亞革波的兒子以利拿單、沙番的兒子基瑪利雅、哈拿尼雅的兒子西底家和所有其餘的領袖。

約雅敬王打發人到埃及去，就是派亞革波的兒子以利拿單和一些人同到埃及去。

猶大對他的眾兄弟說：“我們殺了我們的兄弟，把他的血隱藏起來，究竟有甚麼益處呢？我們不如把他賣給以實瑪利人，不要下手害他，因為他是我們的兄弟，我們的骨肉。”眾兄弟就聽從了他。有些米甸的商人經過那裡，約瑟的哥哥們就把約瑟從枯井裡拉上來，以二十塊銀子把他賣給以實瑪利人。以實瑪利人就把約瑟帶到埃及去了。

“我有罪了！我出賣了無辜的人﹙“人”原文作“血”。﹚！”他們說：“這是你的事，跟我們有甚麼關係？”

彼拉多見無濟於事，反會引起騷動，就拿水在群眾面前洗手，說：“流這人的血，與我無關，你們自己負責吧。”群眾回答：“流他的血的責任，歸在我們和我們子孫的身上吧。”

你們要聽，要留心聽，不要驕傲；因為是耶和華說的。耶和華你們的神還沒有使黑暗臨到以前，你們的腳還沒有在昏暗的山上絆倒之前，你們要把榮耀歸給他。你們期待光明，他卻把光明變為死蔭，使光明變成黝黑。如果你們不聽從，我必因你們的驕傲暗暗哭泣；我的眼必痛哭流淚，因為耶和華的羊群被擄去了。

惡人厚顏無恥，正直人卻堅定他的道路。
