耶利米传达完耶和华的话之后，祭司、先知和民众就抓住他，说：“你真该死！你为什么奉耶和华的名预言这殿必像示罗一样被毁，这城必要荒无人烟呢？”于是，他们在耶和华的殿里把耶利米围了起来。

看啊，我要把这城交在巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒和他率领的迦勒底人手中，让他们攻取这城。这是耶和华说的。他们必放火焚城，把城中的房屋付之一炬，城中的居民曾在房顶上向巴力烧香、向假神奠酒，惹我发怒。

亚哈斯在患难时越发悖逆耶和华，

如果哪一邦或哪一国不肯臣服于巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒，不肯负巴比伦王的轭，我必用战争、饥荒和瘟疫惩罚他们，直到我借巴比伦王的手毁灭他们。这是耶和华说的。

埃及王说：“摩西、亚伦，你们竟敢煽动百姓旷工！快回去工作！”

我责打你们的儿女，却是徒劳，因为他们不受管教。你们杀害你们的先知，残暴如狮子。

耶和华对耶利米先知说：“这是以色列的上帝耶和华的话，‘犹大王派你们来求问我，你们告诉他，前来支援你们的法老军队必中途返回埃及，而迦勒底人必卷土重来，攻占这城，将它付之一炬。耶和华说，你们不要自欺，以为迦勒底人必撤军。其实他们不会撤军。即使你们能打败迦勒底全军，他们营中受伤的残兵也必起来烧毁这城。’”

质问祂：“告诉我们，你凭什么权柄做这些事？谁授权给你了？”

又煽动百姓、长老和律法教师抓住司提凡，把他押到公会。他们还派人作伪证说：“司提凡常常讲侮辱圣地和律法的话。我们听见他说那个拿撒勒人耶稣要毁坏圣殿，还要摒弃摩西传给我们的规矩。”

王说：“如果今天沙法的儿子以利沙的头颅还留在他颈项上，愿上帝重重地惩罚我！”王派使者去以利沙那里。那时，以利沙正与长老们坐在他家中。使者到达之前，以利沙对长老说：“你们看，这凶手派人来斩我的头。使者到达时，你们要把他关在门外。他后面不就是他主人的脚步声吗？”

耶和华啊，你要的不是诚实吗？你责打他们，他们不感到疼痛；你严惩他们，他们仍不受教。他们屡教不改，脸比石头还硬。

便从王宫跑去对王说：

这几位官长就对西底迦王说：“求你处死这人！因为他的话令这城的军民士气低落。这人不为人民着想，反要害他们。”

不可再在伯特利说预言，这里是王的圣所，是国庙。”
