于是西底家王下令，把耶利米拘留在卫兵的院子里；他们每天从饼铺街拿一个饼给他，直到城里的饼都吃光了。耶利米就这样留在卫兵的院子里。

乌赛的儿子巴拉修筑对着城墙的转角的地方，以及王宫突出高耸的城楼靠近护卫院的一段。下一段由巴录的儿子毗大雅修筑。

他们就拿住耶利米，把他丢在王子玛基雅的井里，那井是在卫兵的院子里的；他们用绳子把耶利米缒下去。井里没有水，只有淤泥；耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

耶利米还监禁在卫兵院子里的时候，耶和华的话第二次临到他，说：

我叔叔的儿子哈拿篾果然照着耶和华的话，到卫兵的院子里来见我，对我说：‘请你买下我在便雅悯境内亚拿突的那块田地，因为你有那产业的继承权，以及近亲的权利和义务；请你把它买下吧。’于是我知道这是耶和华的话。

你们应该欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上的赏赐是大的；在你们以前的先知，他们也曾这样迫害。

耶利米吩咐巴录说：“我被阻止，不能进耶和华的殿里去。

因为犹大王西底家把他囚禁起来，说：“你为什么预言：‘耶和华这样说：看哪！我必把这城交在巴比伦王的手中，他必攻取这城；

于是护卫长尼布撒拉旦、大臣（“大臣”的本意不明确）尼布沙斯班、术士长（“术士长”的本意不明确）尼甲．沙利薛，以及巴比伦王所有的大臣都派人去，把耶利米从卫兵的院子里提出来，交给沙番的孙子、亚希甘的儿子基大利，叫他带耶利米回家去。这样，耶利米就住在人民中间。耶利米还监禁在卫兵的院子里的时候，耶和华的话临到他，说：
