於是，西底迦王下令把耶利米囚在護衛兵的院子裡，派人每天從餅鋪取一個餅給他，直到城中絕糧。耶利米就這樣住在護衛兵的院子裡。

再接下來，烏賽的兒子巴拉修築了城牆轉角的對面和護衛院附近上宮凸出的城樓。再下一段由巴錄的兒子毗大雅與住在俄斐勒的殿役修築，他們修到東面的水門對面和凸出的城樓那裡。

於是，他們拿住耶利米，用繩子把他縋到王子瑪基雅的蓄水池裡。那池子在護衛兵的院子裡，池中沒有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

耶利米被囚禁在護衛兵院子裡的時候，耶和華第二次對他說：

果然如耶和華所言，我堂兄弟哈拿篾到護衛兵的院子裡對我說：「我在便雅憫境內的亞拿突有一塊田，求你買下它，因為你理當買下它。求你買下吧！」我知道這是耶和華的旨意。

要歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上有很大的獎賞。他們也曾這樣迫害以前的先知。

耶利米對他說：「我被囚禁，不能進入耶和華的殿，

猶大王西底迦囚禁了他，責問他為什麼預言說：「耶和華說，『看啊，我要讓巴比倫王攻佔這座城。

於是，護衛長尼布撒拉旦、尼布沙斯班、尼甲·沙利薛等巴比倫王的所有將領，便派人把耶利米從護衛兵的院子提出來，讓沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利帶他回家。從此，耶利米就生活在百姓當中。耶利米被監禁在護衛兵院子裡的時候，耶和華對他說：
