“ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the other priests. You said to Zephaniah,

“ The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,‘ You sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem. You also sent them to Zephaniah the priest. He is the son of Maaseiah. And you sent them to all the other priests. You said to Zephaniah,

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

“ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: You wrote a letter on your own authority to Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, the priest, and you sent copies to the other priests and people in Jerusalem. You wrote to Zephaniah,

“ This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: You in your own name have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,

“ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:‘ Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to the priest Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,

Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

that the LORD God of Israel who rules over all has a message for him. Tell him,‘ On your own initiative you sent a letter to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah and to all the other priests and to all the people in Jerusalem. In your letter you said to Zephaniah,

“ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says,‘ Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

西底家王差派示利米雅的儿子犹甲和玛西雅祭司的儿子西番雅，去见耶利米先知，说：“请你为我们向耶和华我们的神祷告。”

西番雅祭司却把这封信念给耶利米先知听。）

护卫长拿住祭司长西莱雅、副祭司长西番亚和三个守门的；

亚述王听见有关古实王特哈加的消息说：“看哪，他出来要和你交战。”于是亚述王再派使者去见希西家说：

不但这样，他们也常常在我面前提起多比雅的善行，又把我说的话传给他；多比雅又常常寄信来恐吓我。

耶和华有话临到耶利米。那时，西底家王差遣玛基雅的儿子巴施户珥，和玛西雅的儿子西番雅祭司去见耶利米，说：“请你替我们求问耶和华，因为巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒来攻击我们；也许耶和华会为我们行奇事，使尼布甲尼撒离开我们回去。”

在这段日子，犹大人的贵族写了许多信给多比雅，多比雅也常常回信给他们。

西拿基立又写信来辱骂耶和华以色列的神，讥诮他说：“各地列国的神没有拯救它们的子民脱离我的手，希西家的神也照样不能拯救他的子民脱离我的手。”

亚哈有七十个儿子在撒玛利亚。耶户写了一批信，送到撒玛利亚，对耶斯列的首领、长老和亚哈众子的导师说：“你们主人的儿子都在你们那里，你们也有战车、马匹、设防城和武器，那么这封信到达你们那里的时候，你们就要看看在你们主人的儿子中，哪一个是最好最合适的，把他立在父亲的宝座上；你们又要为你们主人的家作战。”他们就十分害怕，说：“看哪，两个王尚且不能在他面前站立得住，我们又怎能站得住呢？”于是内务长、市长、长老和亚哈众子的导师送信给耶户说：“我们是你的仆人，你吩咐我们的，我们都必照办；我们也不会立什么人作王；你看怎样好，我们就怎样作。”于是耶户写第二封信给他们说：“如果你们是归从我，听我的话的，就要把你们主人的儿子们的头颅取下，明天大约这个时候，带来耶斯列给我。”那时，王的七十个儿子是住在抚养他们的城中的大臣那里。这信到达他们那里的时候，他们就拿住王的众子，把这七十人杀了，然后把他们的头放在篮子里，送到耶斯列耶户那里。

护卫长拿住祭司长西莱雅、副祭司长西番亚和三个守门的；又从城里拿住一个管理军兵的官长，并且在城里搜获常见王面的五个人，和一个负责召募当地人民的军长书记，又在城中搜获六十个当地的人民。护卫长尼布撒拉旦把他们拿住，带到利比拉巴比伦王那里。巴比伦王击杀他们，在哈马地的利比拉把他们处死。这样，犹大人被掳，离开了他们的国土。

在亚达薛西年间，比施兰、米特利达、他别和其余的同僚，也上书给波斯王亚达薛西，反对耶路撒冷人，奏文是用亚兰文写成，并且翻译了（“并且翻译了”指为亚达薛西王翻译为波斯文字；参18节）。下面是亚兰文：省长利宏和秘书伸帅写奏本给亚达薛西王，控告耶路撒冷。奏文如下：省长利宏、秘书伸帅和他们其余的同僚：法官、钦差、议员、官长（“法官、钦差、议员、官长”或译：“底拿人、亚法萨提迦人、他毗拉人、亚法撒人”），亚基卫人、巴比伦人、书珊人，就是以拦人，还有伟大尊贵的亚斯那巴掳来安置在撒玛利亚城和河西那边其余地方的居民，呈上奏文。这就是他们呈给亚达薛西王的奏文副本：“你的臣仆，就是河西那边的人，上奏亚达薛西王：奏知大王：从你那里上到我们这里来的犹大人，已经到了耶路撒冷这座叛逆和邪恶的城；他们进行建造，并且已经修好根基，开始建造城墙。现在奏知大王：如果这城建成，墙垣筑好，他们就不再缴税、进贡和纳粮，王的国库收入必定受损。现在我们既食王家的盐，不该见王受剥夺，因此上奏禀告王，请王查考先王的记录，从记录中查知这城是叛逆的城，对列王和各省都有损害，自古以来，城中常有造反的事，因此这城被拆毁。我们告知王，如果这城建成，墙垣筑好，河西那边的地方就不再是王的了。”

于是耶洗别以亚哈的名义写了一些信，盖上王的印章，然后把这些信送给那些住在拿伯城里的长老和贵胄。她在信上写着说：“你们要宣告禁食，使拿伯坐在民间的首位上。又叫两个匪徒坐在拿伯的对面，作见证控告他说：‘你曾经咒诅神和君王’；然后把他拉出去，用石头把他打死。”于是拿伯城里的人，就是那些与拿伯同住一城的长老和贵胄，都照着耶洗别送给他们的信上所写的去行。他们宣告禁食，使拿伯坐在民间的首席上。然后两个匪徒来坐在拿伯的对面。这两个流氓当众作见证控告拿伯，说：“拿伯曾经咒诅神和君王。”众人就把拿伯拉出城外，用石头打他，把他打死了。

要求他发公函给大马士革各会堂，如果发现奉行这道的人，准他连男带女缉拿到耶路撒冷。

希西家从使者手中接过信件，念完了，就上耶和华的殿。希西家把信件在耶和华面前展开。

参巴拉第五次这样差派他的仆人来见我，手里拿着一封没有封口的信。
