This was after King Jeconiah and the queen mother, the eunuchs, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the metal workers had departed from Jerusalem.

“我指着我的永生起誓（这是耶和华的宣告），犹大王约雅敬的儿子哥尼雅，虽然你是我右手上的印戒，我也要把你从手上脱下来，交在那些寻索你性命和你们惧怕的人手中，就是交在巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒和迦勒底人手中。我要把你和生你的母亲驱赶到异地去，你们不是生在那里，却要死在那里。你们（“你们”原文作“他们”）渴望归回本国，却不得回去。”哥尼雅这个人是被鄙视、被摔碎的瓶子，是没有人喜悦的器皿吗？他和他的后裔为什么被驱赶，被抛弃到他们不认识的地去呢？

犹大王约雅斤和他的母亲、众臣仆、众领袖，以及众太监，出城投降巴比伦王。巴比伦王于是捉住他。那时，是巴比伦王在位第八年。他又从耶路撒冷把耶和华殿一切宝物和王宫的宝物取去，并且把以色列王所罗门在耶和华殿所做的一切金器都捣毁，就像耶和华所说的。他又掳去耶路撒冷的众民、众领袖，以及英勇的战士共一万人，还有工匠、铁匠；除了国民中最贫穷的以外，没有剩下的。他把约雅斤掳到巴比伦去，又把太后、后妃、太监和国中的要员都从耶路撒冷掳到巴比伦；还有七千位战士，一千位工匠和铁匠，全都是能作战的勇士，巴比伦王把他们都掳到巴比伦去。

约雅斤登基的时候，是八岁；他在耶路撒冷作王共三个月零十天，行耶和华看为恶的事。过了年，尼布甲尼撒派人去把约雅斤和耶和华殿里的珍贵的器皿，一起带到巴比伦来。他立了约雅斤的叔叔西底家，作犹大和耶路撒冷的王。

就是巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒把犹大王约雅敬的儿子耶哥尼雅，以及犹大和耶路撒冷所有的贵族，从耶路撒冷掳到巴比伦去的时候，没有拿走的器皿；

并且你的众子中，就是由你所出，你所生的，有一部分要被掳去。他们要在巴比伦王的王宫中当太监。”

巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒把犹大王约雅敬的儿子耶哥尼雅，和犹大的众领袖、工匠与铁匠从耶路撒冷掳到巴比伦去。这事以后，耶和华使我看见在耶和华的殿前面摆着两筐无花果。

耶户抬头对着窗户，说：“有谁拥护我？谁？”立时有两三个太监往外望着他。

我也必把犹大王约雅敬的儿子耶哥尼雅，和所有被掳到巴比伦去的犹大人，都带回这地方，因为我必折断巴比伦王的轭。’这是耶和华的宣告。”

王吩咐他的太监长亚施毗拿说：“你要从以色列人中，把一些王室的后裔和贵族带进来；这些年轻人必须没有残疾、英俊、足智多才、有高度学习能力、明察事理，而且他们必须有能力可以在王宫里工作。你要教他们学习迦勒底的文学和语言。”王指定每日给他们一份御用的佳肴美酒；又教养他们三年。期满以后，他们就侍立在王面前。他们中间有犹大人但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亚撒利雅。太监长给他们起了新的名字，称但以理为伯提沙撒，哈拿尼雅为沙得拉，米沙利为米煞，亚撒利雅为亚伯尼歌。但以理决心不让御用的佳肴美酒玷污自己，所以求太监长帮助他，使他不用玷污自己。于是神使但以理在太监长面前得着恩惠和同情。只是太监长对但以理说：“我惧怕我主我王，他已指定了你们应用的饮食；如果他见到你们的面色比你们同岁的年轻人憔悴难看，你们就使我的头在王面前保不住了。”后来但以理对太监长分派看管但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亚撒利雅的人说：“请你试试仆人十天，容我们只吃素菜、喝清水。然后，请你观察我们的容貌，和那些享用王的佳肴的年轻人的容貌，就照着你观察的结果，待你的仆人吧！”看管他们的人就允准他们的这个要求，试试他们十天。过了十天，见他们的容貌比所有享用王的佳肴的年轻人，更加俊美健壮。看管他们的人就撤去指定给他们享用的佳肴美酒，让他们吃素菜。这四个年轻人在各种文字和学问上，神都赐他们知识和聪明；但以理并且能明白一切异象和异梦。到了王吩咐带所有年轻人进宫的日子，太监长就领他们到尼布甲尼撒王面前。王和他们谈话，发现他们所有的人中，没有一个比得上但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亚撒利雅的；他们四人就侍立在王面前。王考问他们一切智慧和聪明的事，就发现他们比全国所有的术士和用法术的更胜十倍。直到古列王元年，但以理还在。
