多國的人必經過這城，彼此發問：‘耶和華為甚麼這樣對待這大城呢？’

许多国的民要经过这城，各人对邻舍说：‘耶和华为何向这大城如此行呢？’

“许多国的百姓经过这城，就彼此谈论说：‘耶和华为何向这大城这样做呢？’

“许多国的百姓经过这城，就彼此谈论说：‘耶和华为何向这大城这样做呢？’

“各国的人经过这城时都会彼此议论说，‘为什么耶和华这样对待这座大城？’

多国的人必经过这城，彼此发问：‘耶和华为什么这样对待这大城呢？’

「許多國的民要經過這城，各人對鄰舍說：『耶和華為何向這大城如此行呢？』

「許多國的百姓經過這城，就彼此談論說：『耶和華為何向這大城這樣做呢？』

「各國的人經過這城時都會彼此議論說，『為什麼耶和華這樣對待這座大城？』

『「必有許多國的人要經過這城，彼此對問說：『永恆主為甚麼這樣罰辦這個大城呢？』

多邦之人經是邑者、將相語曰、耶和華如是待此大邑、何故、

凡鄰國眾庶、經過是邑、互相告語、曰、耶和華罰此大邑、何為至於若斯。

諸國之人、經過是邑、彼此問曰、主何為待此大邑如此、

“ People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’

“ People from many nations will pass by this city. They will ask one another,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’

“‘ And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor,“ Why has the Lord dealt thus with this great city?”

“ People from many nations will pass by the ruins of this city and say to one another,‘ Why did the Lord destroy such a great city?’

“ Many nations will pass by this city and ask one another,‘ Why did the LORD do such a thing to this great city?’

“ Many nations will pass by this city; and they will say to one another,‘ Why has the Lord done this to this great city?’

And many nations will pass by this city; and everyone will say to his neighbor,‘ Why has the Lord done so to this great city?’

And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbor, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus unto this great city?

“ Many nations will pass by this city and ask one another,‘ Why did the Lord do such a thing to this great city?’

And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?

“‘ People from other nations will pass by this city. They will ask one another,“ Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?”

“ Many nations will pass by this city, and they will each ask his neighbor,‘ Why has Yahweh done this to this great city?’

這殿必成為廢墟（按照《馬索拉文本》，“成為廢墟”應作“甚高”；現參照《敘利亞譯本》翻譯），經過的人都必驚訝，取笑說：耶和華為甚麼向這地和這殿這樣作啊？人要回答說：是因為他們離棄了那把他們的列祖從埃及地領出來的耶和華他們的神，去親近別的神，敬拜他們，事奉他們，因此耶和華使這一切災禍臨到他們。’”

我就必把以色列人從我賜給他們的土地上拔出來，並且我為自己的名分別為聖的這殿，我也必從我面前捨棄，使這殿在萬民中成為笑談和譏笑的對象。這殿雖然高大，但將來經過的人，都必驚訝，說：‘耶和華為甚麼這樣對待這地和這殿呢？’人必回答說：‘是因為這地的人離棄了耶和華他們列祖的神，就是領他們從埃及地出來的神，去親近別的神，敬拜和事奉他們；所以，耶和華使這一切災禍臨到他們。’”

又看見了遍地有硫磺，有鹽鹵，有火燒，沒有播種，沒有出產，寸草不生，好像耶和華在烈怒和怒火中毀滅的所多瑪、蛾摩拉、押瑪、洗扁一樣，看見了這些的人和萬國的人都要問：‘耶和華為甚麼向這地這樣行呢？為甚麼大發烈怒呢？’人就必回答：‘是因為他們離棄了耶和華他們列祖的神的約，就是耶和華把他們從埃及地領出來的時候，與他們所立的；去事奉別的神，向他們叩拜，就是他們不認識的神，也是耶和華沒有給他們指定要拜的神；

所有過路的人，都拍掌嘲笑你；他們嗤笑耶路撒冷的居民，並搖頭說：“被人稱為最完美，為全地所喜悅的，就是這城嗎？”你所有的仇敵都張開口攻擊你，他們嗤笑你，又咬牙切齒，說：“我們吞滅它了！這真是我們期待的日子！我們等到了！親眼看見了！”耶和華作成了他定意去作的，成就了他的話，就是他昔日所宣告的，他把你拆毀，並不憐惜，他使仇敵因勝過你而高興，他高舉你敵人的角。

主啊！你是公義的；我們滿面羞愧，正如今日的光景；我們猶大人、耶路撒冷的居民，和被你趕逐到遠近各地的以色列眾人，都因對你不忠而滿面羞愧。

“你向這人民傳講這一切時，如果他們問你：‘耶和華為甚麼宣告這一切嚴重的災禍對付我們呢？我們有甚麼罪孽？我們犯了甚麼罪，得罪了耶和華我們的神呢？’

地上的君王，以及世上所有的居民都不相信，會有任何敵人和仇敵攻進耶路撒冷的城門。
