彼謂木曰、爾為我父、謂石曰、爾乃生我、且背我而不面我、惟遭患難、則曰起而援我、

They say to wood,‘ You are my father,’ and to stone,‘ You gave me birth.’ They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say,‘ Come and save us!’

You say to a piece of wood,‘ You are my father.’ You say to a stone,‘ You are my mother.’ You have turned your backs to me. You refuse to look at me. But when you are in trouble, you say,‘ Come and save us!’

who say to a tree,‘ You are my father,’ and to a stone,‘ You gave me birth.’ For they have turned their back to me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble they say,‘ Arise and save us!’

To an image carved from a piece of wood they say,‘ You are my father.’ To an idol chiseled from a block of stone they say,‘ You are my mother.’ They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out to me,‘ Come and save us!’

耶和華歟、彼於難中尋求爾、受爾懲罰、則奉祈禱、

其心不籲我、惟在牀呼號、因穀酒之故、自傷以逆我、

彼背我、而不面我、我雖夙興而誨之、彼猶不聽從、不受教、

以色列人居約但東、屬基列之亞摩利地者、自是受其擾害暴虐、歷十八年、亞捫人亦渡約但、攻猶大便雅憫暨以法蓮族、以色列人窘甚、籲耶和華曰、我棄我之上帝而事巴力、獲罪於爾、耶和華諭以色列人曰、我豈未拯爾於埃及亞摩利亞捫非利士人乎、昔西頓亞瑪力馬雲人虐爾、爾呼籲我、我亦拯爾於其手、爾乃棄我、而事他神、我不復拯爾矣、爾可往籲所簡之神、爾遭難時、任其拯之、以色列人謂耶和華曰、我干罪矣、任爾隨意待我、惟求今日救援、遂去其中異族之神、而事耶和華、耶和華因其困苦、中心愀然、

造雕像者、悉為虛妄、其所悅者無益、彼之證者不見不知、必致愧怍、誰造神像、或鑄無益之偶、凡宗之者、咸生愧赧、造之之工、世人而已、任其聚會、屹立於此、必同戰慄、而慚恧焉、鐵工熾炭鍛之、以鎚治之、竭一臂之力、而製造之、飢而疲乏、渴而困憊、木工布繩、畫之以筆、治之以鐋、正之以規、象人之形、猶人之美、處之於室、更伐香柏、亦取橡櫟、皆林木之堅者、或植杉木、得雨露之養、人取之為薪、用之暖體、燃之烘餅、或以之作神像、而崇拜之、雕偶像、而俯伏於其前、半以燃火、半以炙肉、食之果腹、復暖其身、曰、噫、我既溫暖、亦既觀火、尚有餘木、用之造神、以為雕像、俯伏拜之、禱曰、爾其救予、蓋爾為我神也、維彼不知不思、其目障翳不見、其心蒙蔽不明、無人想念、無知識、無聰明、不云材木之半、我已焚之以火、烘餅於炭、半以炙肉食之、豈可用其餘者、而作可憎之物、俯伏以拜木榦乎、彼乃食灰、中心昏迷、使之離途、弗能自救、不知自言、我之右手所執、非虛誕乎、○

我將於敵前散之、若以東風飄之、彼遭難之日、我必背之、而不面之、○

行戮之時、彼則詢之、轉而切求上帝兮、追憶上帝為其磐石、至上上帝為其救者兮、惟以口諂之、以舌誑之、其心向之不正、守約不誠兮、

異邦偶像、乃銀乃金、人手所造、有口不言、有目不見、有耳不聞、有鼻不嗅、有手不挈、有足不行、喉不出言兮、造之者、賴之者、必似之兮、

主耶和華曰、因爾遺忘我、背棄我、必負爾邪欲淫行之罪、○

遂導我入耶和華室內院、在耶和華殿門之內、廊與祭壇之間、約有二十五人、背耶和華殿、面東拜日、

居利巴嫩、巢於香柏者歟、爾遭難時、若產婦之劬勞、何其可憫、

又若野驢、習於野間、動情欲而吸風、其期既屆、孰能使之轉離哉、尋之者不勞、及期則遇之、

彼皆冥頑無知、偶像之道、惟木而已、

人傾囊出金、權衡其銀、僱厥金工、以鑄神像、俯伏而拜、荷之於肩、攜之而往、置諸其所、使之屹立、不離其處、人或呼之、而不能應、不能拯人於難、○爾悖逆者、當記憶之、顯為丈夫、而追念焉、

我必歸於我所、待其認己罪、而求見我面、彼遇難時、必切求我、

工師雕像、於製造者何益之有、鑄偶乃偽師、製造者恃此喑啞之像、何益之有、謂木曰寤、謂啞石曰起、其人禍哉、此物豈能垂訓乎、彼飾以金銀、而中無生氣、
