耶和华啊，他们在危难中寻求你；你的管教临到他们，他们就低声向你倾心吐意！

塑造偶像的全都虚空，他们所喜爱的毫无益处；为偶像本身作见证的，一无所见，一无所知，他们都必蒙羞。谁塑造了神像、铸造了毫无益处的偶像呢？看哪！与他同伙的也必蒙羞，因为工匠自己也不过是人。让他们聚集、站立吧！他们都必惧怕、蒙羞！铁匠用工具在炭火上工作，用锤子打造偶像，用有力的膀臂工作；他也会因饥饿而无力，因不喝水而疲乏。木匠拉准绳，用笔画出偶像的样子，用刨子刨成形状，用圆规画出轮廓，把偶像做成人的样式，像人那样的美丽，好住在庙里。他为自己砍伐香柏树；他选取柏树或橡树，让它在树林中茁壮成长；他又栽种松树，让它靠雨水长大；这些树可以给人作燃料。他拿一些来生火取暖，还用来烧火烤饼；他也用这些树制作神像来下拜，制造雕像来膜拜。他用一半的木头烧火，在其上做肉吃；他烤肉、吃饱，又自己取暖，说：“啊哈，我暖和了！我感到火热了。”他用剩下的一半做了一个神像，就是他雕刻的偶像，然后向它俯伏下拜，又向它祷告，说：“求你救我，因为你是我的神。”这样的人不明白，也不领悟，因为耶和华蒙蔽他们的眼使他们不能看见，蒙蔽他们的心使他们不能明悟。他们不反思，也没有知识和聪慧来说：“我用一半的木头烧火，又在火炭上烘饼，烤肉吃。我怎么能用剩下的木头制造可憎之物呢？我怎么能向一块木头膜拜呢？”他们追求的只是灰烬；他们的心受了迷惑，使他们偏离正道；他们不能救自己，也不会说：“我右手中的，难道不是虚谎之物吗？”

他杀他们的时候，他们才寻求他，回转过来，切切寻求神。他们这才记起神是他们的磐石，至高神是他们的救赎主。但他们用口试探他，用舌对他说谎；他们的心对他不坚定，他们也不忠于他的约。

列国的偶像是银的、金的，是人手所做的：它们有嘴却不能说，有眼却不能看；有耳却不能听，有鼻却不能闻；有手却不能摸，有脚却不能走，也不能用喉咙发出声音。那些造它们的、所有依靠它们的，都会像它们那样。

那些不惜从钱袋里倒出金子，用天平称出银子的人，雇用金匠造出神像，然后俯伏下拜。他们把神像抬起，扛在肩上，又把它安置就位；它就在那里呆立不动。尽管人向它呼求，它也不回应，更不能救人脱离患难。“你们这些叛逆的人哪，当记念这事，心志坚定，留心反思！
