作偶像者、悉為虛妄、其所慕者無益、彼明知其不見不聞、當生愧怍。誰鑄無益之偶像、以像上帝哉、豈非人乎、宜其同儔、咸生愧赧、使彼聚會、屹立於此、必令其戰慄不勝、慙恧無地。鐵工作斧、炭以煆之、鎚以治之、竭一臂之力、使之成器、若其不飲不食、氣力俱廢。木工用準繩、循規矩、運其利器、作人之形、窮極華美、置之於室、伐柏香木以及橡櫟、此皆木之堅者、亦植杉樹、得雨露之養、人取為柴、燃之可以暖體、可以烘餅、復作上帝像、俯伏而拜。材木之半、焚之可以備餚、可以炙肉、食之果腹、向火得暖、人樂以觀火。更有餘木、以製偶像、以像上帝、俯伏而拜、禱曰、誠我上帝、爾其救予、維彼不識不知、其目若塗以泥、其心不明、孰能深思其故、奮然儆醒曰、材木之半、焚之可以烘餅炙肉、而供口腹、則其餘材、豈可作像、拜此可憎之榾柮。彼心昏迷、所望成空、若食燼餘而不悟、不知右手所作、悉屬虛妄。

工人雕木偶、鑄金像、俱屬虛偽、口不能言、作之者亦賴之、何益之有、木石不能言、有求其起而庇佑者、禍必不遠、維彼偶像、雖飾金銀、不通呼吸、焉能有應、

彼所簡之王、所立之牧、非我所悅、以金銀作偶像、必為我所殄絕。撒馬利亞人拜犢像、作可惡之事、我深痛疾、爾不向善、伊於何底、作斯犢像者、以色列之工人也、彼非上帝、故必見毀、

耶和華曰、維昔爾祖、見我所為、有何苛政、故背逆予、崇事虛無、所為放誕、

工塑偶像、飾以金箔、垂以銀鏈、惟彼貧乏、無寶堪獻、遴選堅木、而僱巧工、俾作木偶、歷久不壞。創地之先、已有大道、爾豈未之知、未之聞耶。主坐地球、視世人若蟿蟲、主布穹蒼、若張帷幕、牧伯士師、藐乎其小、譬諸草萊、甫種甫植、根柢不深、惟主一吹、必復枯槁、被風飄颺、猶之秕糠。爾於聖主、儗以何物、像以何像、爾當仰觀、天象羅布、有若軍旅、上帝以巨能大力、創造星辰、呼其名、核其數、無不應命。惟爾雅各家以色列族、曷言乎我之上帝耶和華、不鑒察予、不眷顧予。夫耶和華永生之上帝、創造地極者也、爾豈未之知、未之聞耶、其力不疲、其智莫測、無力者扶之、無能者助之、壯者必倦怠、少者必顛躓、惟恃耶和華者補其精力、翱翔若鷹、疾趨弗倦、力行弗困。

爾祈禱時、語勿反覆、如異邦人、彼以為言多、乃得聲聞也、

於是取所予之犢備之、自朝至於日中、籲巴力曰、巴力乎、尚其聽我。巴力杳無聲響、不能應對、其先知踊於所築之壇。亭午、以利亞戲之曰、可大聲而呼、彼乃上帝、或默想、或燕居、或遠行、或假寐、爾必使其儆醒。遂大聲呼籲、以刃以匕自割其肉、迨及血流、循其常例。
