Listen! The report is coming— a great commotion from the land of the north! It will make the towns of Judah desolate, a haunt of jackals.

Listen! A message is coming! I hear the sound of a great army marching down from the north! It will turn Judah’s towns into a desert. They will become a home for wild dogs.

A voice, a rumor! Behold, it comes!— a great commotion out of the north country to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a lair of jackals.

Listen! Hear the terrifying roar of great armies as they roll down from the north. The towns of Judah will be destroyed and become a haunt for jackals.

For indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans, A bitter and hasty nation Which marches through the breadth of the earth, To possess dwelling places that are not theirs.They are terrible and dreadful; Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.Their horses also are swifter than leopards, And more fierce than evening wolves. Their chargers charge ahead; Their cavalry comes from afar; They fly as the eagle that hastens to eat.“ They all come for violence; Their faces are set like the east wind. They gather captives like sand.

But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”

Set up the standard toward Zion. Take refuge! Do not delay! For I will bring disaster from the north, And great destruction.”
