Then Gideon said to God,“ If You are going to save Israel through me, as You have spoken,

基甸謂上帝曰、如爾果循所言、假我手而拯以色列人、

其田求上帝曰、爾嘗有言、必假手於我、援以色列族。

基甸禱天主曰、主若果藉我手拯以色列人、循主所許、

Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—

Gideon said to God,“ You promised you would use me to save Israel.

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you will deliver Israel by me, as you said,

So Gideon said to God,“ If You will save Israel by my hand as You have said—

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast spoken,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If You will deliver Israel by my hand, as You said,

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

Gideon said to God,“ If you really intend to use me to deliver Israel, as you promised, then give me a sign as proof.

Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,

And the Lord looked at him and said,“ Go in this strength of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?”

Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.For He Himself knows our form; He is mindful that we are nothing but dust.

Then Moses said,“ What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say,‘ The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”The Lord said to him,“ What is that in your hand?” And he said,“ A staff.”Then He said,“ Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it turned into a serpent; and Moses fled from it.But the Lord said to Moses,“ Reach out with your hand and grasp it by its tail”— so he reached out with his hand and caught it, and it turned into a staff in his hand—“ so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”The Lord furthermore said to him,“ Now put your hand inside the fold of your robe.” So he put his hand inside the fold, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow.Then He said,“ Put your hand inside the fold of your robe again.” So he put his hand into the fold again, and when he took it out of the fold, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh.“ So if they will not believe you nor pay attention to the evidence of the first sign, they may believe the evidence of the last sign.But if they will not believe even these two signs nor pay attention to what you say, then you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground; and the water which you take from the Nile will turn into blood on the dry ground.”

Isaiah said,“ This shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will perform the word that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?”

The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and putting Jesus to the test, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.

So Gideon said to Him,“ If now I have found favor in Your sight, then perform for me a sign that it is You speaking with me.Please do not depart from here until I come back to You, and bring out my offering and lay it before You.” And He said,“ I will remain until you return.”Then Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread from an ephah of flour; he put the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, and brought them out to him under the oak and presented them.And the angel of God said to him,“ Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And he did so.
