Everyone who saw it said,“ Such a horrible crime has not been committed in all the time since Israel left Egypt. Think about it! What are we going to do? Who’s going to speak up?”

So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord.

But I wasn’t talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that.I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning.

Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations. When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim,‘ How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”

Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough?

I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you— something that even pagans don’t do. I am told that a man in your church is living in sin with his stepmother.

So don’t go to war without wise guidance; victory depends on having many advisers.

“ Since you are the people of the Lord your God, never cut yourselves or shave the hair above your foreheads in mourning for the dead.You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.

Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice.
