For they had gone up to Bethel and wept in the presence of the Lord until evening. They had asked the Lord,“ Should we fight against our relatives from Benjamin again?” And the Lord had said,“ Go out and fight against them.”

The Israelites went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and they inquired of the Lord. They said,“ Shall we go up again to fight against the Benjamites, our fellow Israelites?” The Lord answered,“ Go up against them.”

The Israelites went and wept in front of the Lord until evening. They asked the Lord,“ Should we go up again to fight against the men of Benjamin? They are our fellow Israelites.” The Lord answered,“ Go up and fight against them.”

And the people of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until the evening. And they inquired of the Lord,“ Shall we again draw near to fight against our brothers, the people of Benjamin?” And the Lord said,“ Go up against them.”

They went up, wept before the LORD until evening, and inquired of him,“ Should we again attack our brothers the Benjaminites?” And the LORD answered,“ Fight against them.”

And the sons of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and inquired of the Lord, saying,“ Shall we again advance for battle against the sons of my brother Benjamin?” And the Lord said,“ Go up against him.”

Then the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying,“ Shall I again draw near for battle against the children of my brother Benjamin?” And the Lord said,“ Go up against him.”

And the children of Israel went up and wept before Jehovah until even; and they asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And Jehovah said, Go up against him.

They went up, wept before the Lord until evening, and inquired of Him:“ Should we again fight against our brothers the Benjaminites?” And the Lord answered:“ Fight against them.”

( And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)

The Israelites went up and wept before the LORD until evening. They asked the LORD,“ Should we again march out to fight the Benjaminites, our brothers?” The LORD said,“ Attack them!”

The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying,“ Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said,“ Go up against him.”

Then all the Israelites went up to Bethel and wept in the presence of the Lord and fasted until evening. They also brought burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord.The Israelites went up seeking direction from the Lord.( In those days the Ark of the Covenant of God was in Bethel,

When God began killing them, they finally sought him. They repented and took God seriously.Then they remembered that God was their rock, that God Most High was their redeemer.But all they gave him was lip service; they lied to him with their tongues.

Then I will return to my place until they admit their guilt and turn to me. For as soon as trouble comes, they will earnestly search for me.”

Before the battle the Israelites went to Bethel and asked God,“ Which tribe should go first to attack the people of Benjamin?” The Lord answered,“ Judah is to go first.”

Joshua and the elders of Israel tore their clothing in dismay, threw dust on their heads, and bowed face down to the ground before the Ark of the Lord until evening.
