The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done.

當他在瑣拉和以實陶之間的瑪哈尼·但的時候，耶和華的靈開始感動他。

掃羅聽後，上帝的靈降在他身上，他勃然大怒，

然後喊道：「我要跟非利士人同歸於盡！」於是，他一用力，廟宇倒塌，壓住裡面的首領和民眾。參孫死時殺的人比他活著時殺的還多。

他對我說：「這是耶和華對所羅巴伯講的話。萬軍之耶和華說，『不靠權勢，不靠才能，乃靠我的靈。

他看到一塊還沒有乾的驢腮骨，就撿起來用它殺了一千個非利士人。

大衛說：「我一直替父親放羊，有時候獅子或熊會從羊群中叼走羊，我會去追打牠，把羊從牠口中救出來。如果牠起來攻擊我，我就揪著牠的鬍子把牠打死。我曾打死過獅子和熊。這未受割禮的非利士人竟敢向永活上帝的軍隊罵陣，他的下場也必像獅子和熊一樣。耶和華曾經從獅子和熊的利爪下拯救我，祂也必從非利士人手中拯救我。」掃羅對大衛說：「去吧，願耶和華與你同在。」

那時，耶和華的靈降在耶弗他身上，他便經過基列和瑪拿西，來到基列的米斯巴，然後從那裡去迎戰亞捫人。

祂不喧嚷，不呼喊，不在街上高聲說話。

我心柔和謙卑，你們要負我的軛，向我學習，這樣你們的心靈就必得享安息。

參孫大肆擊殺他們，殺死了很多人。事後，他下到以坦，住在那裡的岩洞裡。

今天，耶和華必把你交在我手中，我必殺死你，砍掉你的頭，用非利士軍兵的屍體餵天上的飛禽和地上的走獸，使普天下都知道以色列有上帝。
