The elders of Gilead replied,“ The Lord is our witness; we will certainly do as you say.”

And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah,“ The Lord will be witness between us, if we do not do as you say.”

“ The Lord is our witness,” the elders replied.“ We promise to do whatever you say.”

They answered Jeremiah,“ May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not do just as the LORD sends you to tell us to do.

If you mistreat my daughters or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no one else is with us, realize that God is witness to your actions.”

This will happen to them because they have done what is shameful in Israel. They have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives and have spoken lies while claiming my authority.
