The descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, the Kenite, went up from the City of Palms with the people of Judah to live among the inhabitants of the Desert of Judah in the Negev near Arad.

Moses’ father- in- law was a Kenite. His family went up from Jericho. Jericho was also known as the City of Palm Trees. His family went up with the people of Judah to the Desert of Judah. They went there to live among its people. Those people were living in the Negev Desert near Arad.

And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad, and they went and settled with the people.

When the tribe of Judah left Jericho— the city of palms— the Kenites, who were descendants of Moses’ father in law, traveled with them into the wilderness of Judah. They settled among the people there, near the town of Arad in the Negev.

And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses’ father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.

Now Heber the Kenite,[ which was] of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which[ is] by Kedesh.

And[ when] king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took[ some] of them prisoners.

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.

And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.

Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for[ there was] peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

Ozem the sixth, David the seventh:

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which[ are] in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God,[ even] to Horeb.

Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

The king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people,[ and] that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;

At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of[ their] welfare; and they came into the tent.

And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

And Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father in law before God.

And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What[ is] this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make[ them] know the statutes of God, and his laws.And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest[ is] not good.
