They advanced against the Canaanites living in Hebron( formerly called Kiriath Arba) and defeated Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.

Then the men of Judah marched out against the Canaanites living in Hebron. Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba. The men of Judah won the battle over Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.

And Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron( now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba), and they defeated Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.

Judah marched against the Canaanites in Hebron( formerly called Kiriath arba), defeating the forces of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

希伯崙從前名叫基列·亞巴，亞巴原是亞衲族中最偉大的人。從此，境內太平，沒有戰爭。

他們經南地到達希伯崙。希伯崙城比埃及的鎖安城還要早建七年，那裡住著亞衲人的子孫亞希幔、示篩和撻買。

照摩西的吩咐，迦勒得到了希伯崙。他把亞衲三族的人從那裡趕走。

我又發現，日光之下，跑得快的未必能得獎，強大的未必能得勝，智者未必得溫飽，聰明人未必有財富，博學者未必受愛戴，因為時機和境遇左右眾人。

耶和華說：「智者不要誇耀自己的智慧，勇士不要誇耀自己的力量，富人不要誇耀自己的財富。

我們在那裡看見了亞衲人的子孫，他們是巨人的後裔，我們跟他們相比就像蚱蜢，他們看我們也像蚱蜢。」

君王不能靠兵多取勝，勇士不能憑力大獲救。靠戰馬取勝實屬妄想，馬雖力大也不能救人。

約書亞又照耶和華的吩咐，在猶大支派所分到的土地之中劃出基列·亞巴，即希伯崙，分給耶孚尼的兒子迦勒。亞巴是亞衲人的祖先。迦勒趕走了住在那裡的亞衲族的三個族長，即示篩、亞希幔和撻買，再從那裡起兵攻打底璧，底璧以前的名字是基列·西弗。迦勒說：「誰攻取基列·西弗，我就把女兒押撒嫁給他。」迦勒的兄弟基納斯的兒子俄陀聶攻取了那城，迦勒便把女兒押撒嫁給他。押撒出嫁的時候，勸丈夫向她父親要一塊田。她剛下驢，迦勒便問她：「你想要什麼？」押撒答道：「請你賜福給我，你既然把南地給了我，就求你也把水泉賜給我。」迦勒就把上泉和下泉都給了她。
