他要站在祭司以利亚撒面前；以利亚撒要凭乌陵的判断，在耶和华面前为他求问。他和以色列全会众都要遵以利亚撒的命出入。”

以色列人就起来，到伯特利去求问神说：“我们中间谁当首先上去与便雅悯人争战呢？”耶和华说：“犹大当先上去。”

那时以东人多益站在扫罗的臣仆中，对他说：“我曾看见耶西的儿子到了挪伯，亚希突的儿子亚希米勒那里。亚希米勒为他求问耶和华，又给他食物，并给他杀非利士人歌利亚的刀。”

这些事以后，耶和华的仆人嫩的儿子约书亚，正一百一十岁，就死了。以色列人将他葬在他地业的境内，就是在以法莲山地的亭拿西拉，在迦实山的北边。

大卫知道扫罗设计谋害他，就对祭司亚比亚他说：“将以弗得拿过来。”大卫祷告说：“耶和华以色列的神啊，你仆人听真了扫罗要往基伊拉来，为我的缘故灭城。

玛拿西没有赶出伯善和属伯善乡村的居民，他纳和属他纳乡村的居民，多珥和属多珥乡村的居民，以伯莲和属以伯莲乡村的居民，米吉多和属米吉多乡村的居民；迦南人却执意住在那些地方。

又要将乌陵和土明放在决断的胸牌里；亚伦进到耶和华面前的时候，要带在胸前，在耶和华面前常将以色列人的决断牌带在胸前。”

耶和华留下这几族，为要试验那不曾知道与迦南争战之事的以色列人，好叫以色列的后代又知道又学习未曾晓得的战事。所留下的就是非利士的五个首领和一切迦南人、西顿人，并住黎巴嫩山的希未人，从巴力黑们山直到哈马口。留下这几族，为要试验以色列人，知道他们肯听从耶和华藉摩西吩咐他们列祖的诫命不肯。以色列人竟住在迦南人、赫人、亚摩利人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人中间，娶他们的女儿为妻，将自己的女儿嫁给他们的儿子，并侍奉他们的神。
