Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Don’t just listen to the word. You fool yourselves if you do that. You must do what it says.

“ Why do you call me‘ Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them:He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built.

So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.

He said,“ Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him?If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily foodand one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?In the same way faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.But someone will say,“ You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith by my works.You believe that God is one. Good! Even the demons believe— and they shudder.Senseless person! Are you willing to learn that faith without works is useless?

For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

“ Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

“ Not everyone who says to me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.On that day many will say to me,‘ Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’Then I will announce to them,‘ I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’“ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”

Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap,

If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, his religion is useless and he deceives himself.

And that servant who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it will be severely beaten.But the one who did not know and did what deserved punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be expected.

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men (niv)

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. (niv)

The great dragon was hurled down— that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. (niv)

while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (niv)

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become“ fools” so that you may become wise. (niv)
