蓋日出風炎、則草枯花謝、秀色云亡、富者於其所為、其衰亦若是、○

日出曝之、草枯花謝、其美亡矣、富者必衰亦如是、

For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

The sun rises. Its burning heat dries up the plants. Their blossoms fall. Their beauty is destroyed. In the same way, rich people will fade away. They fade away even as they go about their business.

For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements.

使吾人欣欣向榮、以望承其不朽不染不衰之洪基、斯則夙為爾曹預儲於天矣。

復為之設喻曰：『昔有富人、土地所產甚豐、乃自計曰：「吾無處囤此物產、將如之何？」曰：「有矣、吾將毀諸倉、而另建大者、以儲百穀諸貨。」吾將寬慰吾魂曰：「魂乎、爾有豐財、足供餘年、此後可安心飲食、姿爾宴樂。」詎天主謂之曰：「愚人、今夕欲索爾魂、爾之所備、將誰歸乎？」凡厚積私財、而貧於天爵者、皆此類也。』

歲月容易度。消散如雲煙。精力已枯焦。有如火相煎。

昔有一富翁、衣紫披紗、日事飲食宴樂；一丐名辣柴魯、瘡痍徧體、臥其門外、欲食富翁几下餘屑、而不可得、更有犬來舐瘡。無何、丐死、天神送諸亞伯漢懷中。富翁亦死、葬後慘受地獄之苦、偶舉目遙見亞伯漢、與其懷中之辣柴魯、乃竭聲而呼曰：「大父亞伯漢、其垂憐焉！予處燄中、苦不堪言、請發辣柴魯沾水指尖、以涼吾舌。」亞伯漢曰：「兒乎、當憶汝生前如何享樂、辣柴魯如何受苦、今則彼見慰、而汝受罪矣。

日出曝之、則苗槁矣、無根故也；

曾見惡勢張。葱翠如春林。旋復經其宅。蕭條不見人。

咄咄富人、爾其休矣、災禍將臨爾身、爾盍哀號痛哭乎！爾之財帛朽矣、爾之衣服蝕矣、爾之金銀銹矣。金銀之銹、將為爾罪之鐵證、而成爾體之烙印。哀哉、爾平生所積之寶、適足以為末日積怒耳。工人為爾收穫莊稼、爾竟欺之、而不予工資。此所欠之工資、亦將為工人鳴冤、且其聲已上達萬軍主宰之耳矣。爾在世時、飽暖逸樂、窮奢極侈、以奉爾身；不敬天主、縱情恣慾、以快爾志。爾顛倒黑白、定彼仁者之罪而殘殺之、而仁者固不爾抗也。凡我兄弟、應安心忍耐以俟主來。夫農夫之望收穫嘉穀、必須弗助弗忘、以待秋霖春雨之膏澤也。

用世當若遺世；蓋斯世之形形色色、皆如雲煙過眼、瞬即杳矣。

昔蒙主高舉。今為主遐遺。

欲論世間人。應觀其終局。小人處順境。所以成其戮。灼灼何足恃。彈指歸寂寞。夢中雖云歡。覺後應悲哭。悲哭復何及。塵影淪幽壑。

橫逆縱頻仍。心泰何憂否。財富安足恃。不得贖昆弟。黃金高北斗。未足賂天帝。生命無價寶。非財所能市。永生與不朽。人力寧能致。爾其勿妄想。妄想祇多事。智巧徒爾為。終須有一死。愚蠢不足論。自當紛紛逝。身亡留其財。他人為之嗣。意謂基業固。第宅保萬世。孳孳求田舍。瑣瑣標名字。誰知盈難持。榮華荏苒已。生榮死則休。蠢蠢如鹿豕。冥頑何足訓。世人反稱智。

則於元牧顯現之日、爾等必獲永久不敝之榮冕矣。
