沒有信、要讓上帝喜歡是不可能的，因為上上帝面前去的人必須信他存在，能真地賞報尋求他的人。

第二天早晨、眾人清早起來，出發往提哥亞的曠野；他們出去的時候，約沙法站着說：『猶大人和耶路撒冷居民哪，你們要聽我的話：信靠永恆主你們的上帝，你們就一定牢靠；信靠他的神言人，你們就一定成功。』

不錯，他們猶太人因了不信的心才被折下；你因了信心才立得住。別存着高傲思想了，卻要有畏懼的心。

所以同人們，你們要振作精神；我信上帝，我信所告訴我的怎樣，事情也必怎樣。

因此以色列之聖者這麼說：『你們棄絕了這話語，而倚賴欺壓和乖僻，去依靠它，那麼這罪罰對於你們就必像有裂縫、凸出來、行將倒塌的高牆；其崩垮準會在頃刻間突然臨到的。主必毁壞它，像窰匠的瓦器之被毁壞，砸到碎碎，毫不顧惜，甚至碎塊中也找不到一片瓦，可以用來從燒炭中去取火，從沼池中去舀水的。』

暗利用兩擔銀子向撒瑪買了撒瑪利亞山；把山加以建造，就按山的原主撒瑪的名字給所建造的城起名叫撒瑪利亞。暗利行永恆主所看為壞的事；比以前所有的王行的更壞。他走尼八的兒子耶羅波安所走的路，犯了耶羅波安使以色列人犯的那罪，用虛無的神來惹永恆主以色列之上帝的發怒。暗利其餘的事、他所行的、和他所顯的勇力、不是都寫在《以色列諸王記》上麼？暗利跟他列祖一同長眠，埋葬在撒瑪利亞；他兒子亞哈接替他作王。猶大王亞撒三十八年、暗利的兒子亞哈登極來管理以色列；暗利的兒子亞哈在撒瑪利亞作王管理以色列、有二十二年。

『這人民既棄絕了西羅亞緩流的水，而在利汛和利瑪利的兒子面前軟化下去，因此、你看吧，主必使大河的水，又強又大的水，就是亞述王和他所有的威榮，起來淹沒他們；大水必漲起、高過一切水溝，它必橫流，漫過所有的河岸；並且必沖掃猶大，氾濫瀰漫，直到人的脖子；但主展開的翅膀必遮遍你廣闊的國土；上帝是與我們同在的。』

但百夫長信從船長和船主，不信從保羅所說的話。
