a people who continually provoke me to my very face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick;

They are always making me very angry. They do it right in front of me. They offer sacrifices in the gardens of other gods. They burn incense on altars that are made out of bricks.

All day long they insult me to my face by worshiping idols in their sacred gardens. They burn incense on pagan altars.

These people continually anger me to my face, sacrificing in gardens, burning incense on bricks,

A people who continually provoke Me to My face, Offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on bricks;

A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; Who sacrifice in gardens, And burn incense on altars of brick;

a people that provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens, and burning incense upon bricks;

These people continually provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in gardens, burning incense on bricks,

A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

These people continually and blatantly offend me as they sacrifice in their sacred orchards and burn incense on brick altars.

“ You will be ashamed because of the sacred oaks in which you have delighted; you will be disgraced because of the gardens that you have chosen. (niv)

“ Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things— they will meet their end together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord. (niv)

Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence. (niv)

They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols. (niv)

“ The people of Israel and Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight from their youth; indeed, the people of Israel have done nothing but arouse my anger with what their hands have made, declares the Lord.From the day it was built until now, this city has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove it from my sight.The people of Israel and Judah have provoked me by all the evil they have done— they, their kings and officials, their priests and prophets, the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem.They turned their backs to me and not their faces; though I taught them again and again, they would not listen or respond to discipline.They set up their vile images in the house that bears my Name and defiled it.They built high places for Baal in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molek, though I never commanded— nor did it enter my mind— that they should do such a detestable thing and so make Judah sin. During the reign of King Josiah, the Lord said to me,“ Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree and has committed adultery there. (niv)

They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding. (niv)

They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols.They sacrificed to false gods, which are not God— gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear.You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.The Lord saw this and rejected them because he was angered by his sons and daughters. “ Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense.It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high— its horns of one piece with it.Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.Make two gold rings for the altar below the molding— two on each of the opposite sides— to hold the poles used to carry it.Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.Put the altar in front of the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law— before the atonement cover that is over the tablets of the covenant law— where I will meet with you.“ Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps.He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord for the generations to come.Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the Lord.” (niv)

He said to me,“ Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose!Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.” (niv)

Because they have forsaken me and burned incense to other gods and aroused my anger by all the idols their hands have made, my anger will burn against this place and will not be quenched.’ (niv)

But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors, who did not trust in the Lord their God.They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them,“ Do not do as they do.”They forsook all the commands of the Lord their God and made for themselves two idols cast in the shape of calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshiped Baal.They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sought omens and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger. (niv)

“‘ Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. (niv)

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the wasteland! (niv)

When I brought them into the land I had sworn to give them and they saw any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices, made offerings that aroused my anger, presented their fragrant incense and poured out their drink offerings. (niv)

This is so the Israelites will bring to the Lord the sacrifices they are now making in the open fields. They must bring them to the priest, that is, to the Lord, at the entrance to the tent of meeting and sacrifice them as fellowship offerings. (niv)

Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started!“ You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.
