a people who continually provoke me to my very face, offering sacrifices in gardens and burning incense on altars of brick;

They are always making me very angry. They do it right in front of me. They offer sacrifices in the gardens of other gods. They burn incense on altars that are made out of bricks.

A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; Who sacrifice in gardens, And burn incense on altars of brick;

These people continually provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in gardens, burning incense on bricks,

A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

These people continually and blatantly offend me as they sacrifice in their sacred orchards and burn incense on brick altars.

They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; They have provoked me to anger with their vanities: And I will move them to jealousy with those that are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of acacia wood shalt thou make it.A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be; and two cubits shall be the height thereof: the horns thereof shall be of one piece with it.And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about.And two golden rings shalt thou make for it under the crown thereof; upon the two ribs thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make them; and they shall be for places for staves wherewith to bear it.And thou shalt make the staves of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.And thou shalt put it before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy- seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee.And Aaron shall burn thereon incense of sweet spices: every morning, when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn it.And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn it, a perpetual incense before Jehovah throughout your generations.Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt- offering, nor meal- offering; and ye shall pour no drink- offering thereon.And Aaron shall make atonement upon the horns of it once in the year; with the blood of the sin- offering of atonement once in the year shall he make atonement for it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto Jehovah.

Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have turned again to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.Therefore will I also deal in wrath; mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.

Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but hardened their neck, like to the neck of their fathers, who believed not in Jehovah their God.And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified unto them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them.And they forsook all the commandments of Jehovah their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.

An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt- offerings, and thy peace- offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in every place where I record my name I will come unto thee and I will bless thee.And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, And grieve him in the desert!

For when I had brought them into the land, which I sware to give unto them, then they saw every high hill, and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering; there also they made their sweet savor, and they poured out there their drink- offerings.

to the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they sacrifice in the open field, even that they may bring them unto Jehovah, unto the door of the tent of meeting, unto the priest, and sacrifice them for sacrifices of peace- offerings unto Jehovah.

Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
