So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter.

So people stop others from doing what is fair. They keep them from doing what is right. No one tells the truth in court anymore. No one is honest there.

Woe to those who enact unjust statutes And to those who constantly record harmful decisions,So as to deprive the needy of justice And rob the poor among My people of their rights, So that widows may be their spoil And that they may plunder the orphans.

Like a cage full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit; Therefore they have become great and rich.They are fat, they are sleek, They also excel in deeds of wickedness; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the orphan, so that they may be successful; And they do not defend the rights of the poor.

How long will you judge unjustly And show partiality to the wicked? SelahVindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.Rescue the weak and needy; Save them from the hand of the wicked.They do not know nor do they understand; They walk around in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

Who declare the wicked innocent for a bribe, And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!

Furthermore, I have seen under the sun that in the place of justice there is wickedness and in the place of righteousness there is wickedness.

Now hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob And rulers of the house of Israel, Who despise justice And twist everything that is straight,Who build Zion with bloodshed, And Jerusalem with malice.Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord not in our midst? Catastrophe will not come upon us.”

How the faithful city has become a prostitute, She who was full of justice! Righteousness once dwelt in her, But now murderers.

Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, The oppressive city!She obeyed no voice, She accepted no discipline. She did not trust in the Lord, She did not approach her God.Her leaders within her are roaring lions, Her judges are wolves at evening; They have no bones to gnaw in the morning.

As for evil, both hands do it well. The leader asks for a bribe, also the judge, And the great one speaks the capricious desire of his soul; So they plot it together.The best of them is like a thorn bush, The most upright like a thorn hedge. The day when you post your watchmen, Your punishment is coming. Then their confusion will occur.Do not trust in a neighbor; Do not have confidence in a close friend. Guard your lips From her who lies in your arms.

For those who turn justice into wormwood, And throw righteousness to the earth.”
