He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

耶稣还是沉默不语。大祭司又对祂说：“我奉永活上帝的名命令你起誓告诉我们，你是不是上帝的儿子基督？”

他刚才念的那段经文是：“祂默然不语，像被人牵去宰杀的羔羊，又如在剪毛人手下一声不吭的绵羊。祂忍受耻辱，无人为祂主持公道，谁能明白那个世代呢？因为祂的生命竟然被夺去。”

耶稣还是沉默不语，什么也不答。大祭司又问祂：“你是那当受称颂者的儿子基督吗？”

祂被辱骂也不还口，被迫害也不扬言报复，只把自己交托给按公义施行审判的上帝。

当祭司长和长老控告祂时，祂一句话也不说。彼拉多就问：“你没听见他们对你的诸多控告吗？”耶稣仍然一言不发，彼拉多感到十分惊奇。

连忙将耶稣带回总督府，问祂：“你到底是从哪里来的？”但耶稣没有回答。

他问了耶稣许多问题，耶稣却一言不发。
