Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel:“ My way is hidden from the Lord, And my just claim is passed over by my God”?

But You have cast off and abhorred, You have been furious with Your anointed.You have renounced the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.You have broken down all his hedges; You have brought his strongholds to ruin.All who pass by the way plunder him; He is a reproach to his neighbors.You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice.You have also turned back the edge of his sword, And have not sustained him in the battle.You have made his glory cease, And cast his throne down to the ground.The days of his youth You have shortened; You have covered him with shame. Why do You forget us forever, And forsake us for so long a time?

How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search.Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more?Has His mercy ceased forever? Has His promise failed forevermore?Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah

therefore behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you and forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and will cast you out of My presence.

I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying,“ Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”?But what does the divine response say to him?“ I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?
