列邦免難之民、其集而至、惟彼舁其木偶、禱於不能施救之神者、悉屬無知、

列國流離之民、當大和會、群聽斯言、木偶之上帝、不能救民、凡輦斯像而禱之者、其愚甚矣。

爾自列邦得脫者、俱集而至、同就以聽斯言、惟彼攜其木偶、禱不能施救之神者、悉屬無知、

“ Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save.

“ Come together, you people of the nations who escaped from Babylon. Gather together and come into court. Only people who do not know anything would carry around gods that are made out of wood. They pray to false gods that can’t save them.

“ Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.

“ Gather together and come, you fugitives from surrounding nations. What fools they are who carry around their wooden idols and pray to gods that cannot save!

“ Come, gather together, and approach, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols and pray to a god who cannot save have no knowledge.

“ Assemble yourselves and come; Draw near together, You who have escaped from the nations. They have no knowledge, Who carry the wood of their carved image, And pray to a god that cannot save.

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

“ Come, gather together, and draw near, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols, and pray to a god who cannot save, have no knowledge.

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye[ that are] escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god[ that] cannot save.

Gather together and come! Approach together, you refugees from the nations! Those who carry wooden idols know nothing, those who pray to a god that cannot deliver.

“ Assemble yourselves and come. Draw near together, you who have escaped from the nations. Those have no knowledge who carry the wood of their engraved image, and pray to a god that can’t save.

All the nations have gathered together So that the peoples may be assembled. Who among them can declare this And proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses so that they may be justified, Or let them hear and say,“ It is true.”

They are like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot walk! Do not fear them, For they can do no harm, Nor can they do any good.”

Yet the rest of it he makes into a god, his carved image. He bows down before it and worships; he also prays to it and says,“ Save me, for you are my god.”They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their eyes so that they cannot see, and their hearts so that they cannot comprehend.No one remembers, nor is there knowledge or understanding to say,“ I have burned half of it in the fire and also have baked bread over its coals. I roast meat and eat it. Then I make the rest of it into an abomination, I bow down before a block of wood!”He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has misled him. And he cannot save himself, nor say,“ Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.

Bel has bowed down, Nebo stoops over; Their idols have become loads for the animals and the cattle. The things that you carry are burdensome, A load for the weary animal.

Flee from the midst of Babylon, And each of you save his life! Do not perish in her punishment, For this is the Lord’s time of vengeance; He is going to repay to her what she deserves.Babylon has been a golden cup in the hand of the Lord, Intoxicating all the earth. The nations have drunk of her wine; Therefore the nations are going insane.Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; Wail over her! Bring balm for her pain; Perhaps she may be healed.We applied healing to Babylon, but she was not healed; Abandon her and let’s each go to his own country, For her judgment has reached to heaven And it rises to the clouds.

The coastlands have seen and are afraid; The ends of the earth tremble; They have approached and have come.Each one helps his neighbor And says to his brother,“ Be strong!”

There is a sound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon, To declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, Vengeance for His temple.

“ Present your case,” the Lord says.“ Bring forward your evidence,” The King of Jacob says.

They will be turned back and be utterly put to shame, Who trust in idols, Who say to cast metal images,“ You are our gods.”Hear, you who are deaf! And look, you who are blind, so that you may see.

Who say to a tree,‘ You are my father,’ And to a stone,‘ You gave me birth.’ For they have turned their backs to Me, And not their faces; But in the time of their trouble they will say,‘ Arise and save us!’But where are your gods Which you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you In the time of your trouble! For as many as the number of your cities Are your gods, Judah.

For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to me:“ Take this cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and give it to all the nations to whom I send you, to drink from it.Then they will drink and loudly vomit and act insanely because of the sword that I am going to send among them.”So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and gave it to all the nations to whom the Lord sent me, to drink from it:To Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, and its kings and its officials, to make them places of ruins, objects of horror, hissing, and a curse, as it is this day;To Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, and all his people;and to all the foreign people, all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the Philistines( that is, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);To Edom, Moab, and the sons of Ammon;and to all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are beyond the sea;and to Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who trim the corners of their hair;and to all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the foreign people who live in the desert;and to all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;and to all the kings of the north, near and far, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the earth which are on the face of the ground; and the king of Sheshach shall drink it after them.“ And you shall say to them,‘ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ Drink, be drunk, vomit, fall down, and do not get up, because of the sword which I am sending among you.” ’And if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them,‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ You shall certainly drink!For behold, I am beginning to inflict disaster on this city which is called by My name, so should you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares the Lord of armies.’

Therefore I declared them to you long ago, Before they took place I proclaimed them to you, So that you would not say,‘ My idol has done them, And my carved image and my cast metal image have commanded them.’You have heard; look at all this. And you, will you not declare it? I proclaim to you new things from this time, Hidden things which you have not known.They are created now and not long ago; And before today you have not heard them, So that you will not say,‘ Behold, I knew them.’

Every person is stupid, devoid of knowledge; Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, For his cast metal images are deceitful, And there is no breath in them.They are worthless, a work of mockery; At the time of their punishment they will perish.

But they are altogether stupid and foolish; The instruction from idols is nothing but wood!

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became fools,and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four footed animals, and crawling creatures.

and that He might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the hostility.

Then they took the ox which was given them and they prepared it, and they called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying,“ O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice and no one answered. And they limped about the altar which they had made.And at noon Elijah ridiculed them and said,“ Call out with a loud voice, since he is a god; undoubtedly he is attending to business, or is on the way, or is on a journey. Perhaps he is asleep, and will awaken.”So they cried out with a loud voice, and cut themselves according to their custom with swords and lances until blood gushed out on them.When midday was past, they raved until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice; but there was no voice, no one answered, and no one paid attention.

For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich from the excessive wealth of her luxury.”I heard another voice from heaven, saying,“ Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive any of her plagues;for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her offenses.Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her.To the extent that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, to the same extent give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart,‘ I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’For this reason in one day her plagues will come, plague and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong.“ And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her, will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning,standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying,‘ Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’“ And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any more—cargo of gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet; every kind of citron wood, every article of ivory, and every article made from very valuable wood, bronze, iron, and marble;cinnamon, spice, incense, perfume, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, and cargo of horses, carriages, slaves, and human lives.The fruit you long for has left you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and people will no longer find them.The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,saying,‘ Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls;for in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!’ And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and all who make their living by the sea, stood at a distance,and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying,‘ What city is like the great city?’

remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the people of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

“ What benefit is a carved image when its maker has carved it, Or a cast metal image, a teacher of falsehood? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols.Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him.”

Every person is stupid, devoid of knowledge; Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, For his cast metal images are deceitful, And there is no breath in them.

Those who lavish gold from the bag And weigh silver on the scale, Hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god; They bow down, indeed they worship it.They lift it on the shoulder, carry it, And set it in its place, and it stands there. It does not move from its place. Though one may shout to it, it cannot answer; It cannot save him from his distress.

On that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth will be the pride and the beauty of the survivors of Israel.
